“You can become very sick from this disease, no?”

“Yes, you can,” Luca answered for Dennis.

“So that is why you don’t work and stay living off my son?” Mr. Ferone asked with some asperity.

Luca stood up and threw his napkin down on the table. Dennis put his hand on Luca’s arm. Luca sat down, however reluctantly.

“My condition isn’t active all the time. It comes and goes in flares. No one knows what brings on a flare. However, they now have excellent medication to control it. When in flare my joints are swollen and my muscles feel like battery acid runs through them rather than blood. It isn’t pleasant,” Dennis explained. He picked up his fork and began to push salad around his plate.
