When Ted got back to the booth, Erik seemed in a hurry to leave, watching Ted intently as he drank his second beer. “You about done?”
“Yeah. What’s your hurry?”
The question seemed to fluster Erik. “No, no, I’m not in a hurry, I’m just getting really sleepy. I drove about eleven hours to get here. Take your time, I don’t want to rush you. Take your time,” he needlessly repeated.
Despite his assurances there was no rush, Erik checked his watch frequently and Ted could feel his foot tapping nervously under the table.
Ted finished his brew and they left. As they drove back to Erik’s motel they talked about things back home and how school was going. Anything but the main issue on Ted’s mind—was Erik gay?
