6. Sparring

It has been 3 months since Ben arrived on this world. After the successful 1st job, Ben & Wendy keep getting the same job. They are now in charge of hunting for the guild.

Ben didn't have any problem with hunting job. Sure it start to get boring, but it's also training. Ben & Wendy can use hunting to train their skills. Ben also start to use magic on his hunt & battle. But his magic knowledge is still shallow, so he need to learn more.

"Gramps, did our guild have a library?"-Ben

"Why'd you ask?"-Roubaul

"My knowledge about magic is not that good, so i want to learn more. Well, actually the only thing that i know is the basic of magic and my Dragon Slayer Magic."-Ben

"So you want to know more about magic? Sure.-Roubaul

Roubaul click his fingers, and suddenly a very thick book appear between them. The book is very thick, that it almost as high as Ben when he sit. Ben stand up to read the title, and he frown.

"Everything That You Need To Know About Magic, by The Great Roubaul?"-Ben

"Yeah, it's a book that i wrote myself after gathering a lot of knowledge about magic. You can say that our guild library is none other than me, hahahaha."-Roubaul laugh with a smug expression

"Did you need to make it this thick?"-Ben

"Hey now, that book have detailed explanation and my own view, something that you'll rarely find in other books, so you need to be thankful."-Roubaul

"Well thanks then. How long can i borrow it?"-Ben

"As long as you want, i have some copies of it after all. Just don't take it out from the village!"-Roubaul

"Can i take it to where i train with Wendy?"-Ben

"No."-Roubaul

"Sigh, okay then. Ah, Gramps, can you help us in the training ground? We have an agenda that need your help."-Ben

"Okay."-Roubaul

Ben take the very thick book to his house and leave it there to train. He will read it when he rest and before he sleep. It might take a few months to finish that book, so he'll just read it slowly.

Ben train with Wendy on the usual place, near the lake, on the other side of the village. They didn't take any job today so they can train. Today, they will train their spells and fighting skills by sparring.

"You kids really want to make these old bones worked hard, huh?"-Roubaul

"You're just a referee, not the fighter."-Ben

Roubaul is there to be the referee and prevent unwanted things.

"Are you ready?"-Roubaul

""Yes.""-Wendy & Ben

"Then, let's start."-Roubaul

Ben & Wendy have 10 meters distance between them. Roubaul look at Ben & Wendy, and then he start the sparring.

"Sky Dragon's Roar!"-Wendy

Wendy use her roar to attack Ben immediately. Ben can jump to the side and dodge, but he want to test his spell's power too. Ben make a magic circle in front of him, then he form a fist that glow with yellow light in his right hand and pull it to the side.

"Sun's Dragon Light Cannon!"-Ben

Ben punch the magic circle and a yellow light blast generated. The light blast destroy the roar and it still have some power left. The light blast move to Wendy, but she can dodge to the side.

'I still use too much power. I intend to just destroy her roar and make the attacks cancel each other, but i use a little too much magic power. My control is still not good enough.'-Ben

Ben can overpower Wendy's roar by a big margin, but he didn't do it. He didn't want to destroy Wendy's confidence by defeating her with one attack. Beside, this is also his training to control his magic power and sense. He could sense the power behind Wendy's roar, and try to use the same amount of power, but he failed.

Roubaul realize this and scoff at Ben. He know Ben have good intention, but Ben is still underestimating Wendy too much. Wendy won't be depressed just because she is much weaker than Ben.

"Ben nii-san, you should use your full power. I know you're holding back to not hurt me, but i am stronger than you thought. Please don't underestimate me!"-Wendy

"Hahaha, Ben-boy, she is right, you shouldn't underestimating her. Instead of raising her confidence, you need to make her want to chase you. Be her goal so she will try to be as strong as you or even stronger!"-Roubaul

"..... I want to train my magic control, but if that's what you want, then i won't hold back. Don't get discouraged, Wendy!"-Ben

"I won't."-Wendy

Wendy then prepare an attack again. She spread he hands and a big magic circle appear below her feet. Then a wind barrier generated around them and pushing Ben inwards.

"She want to cut off my escape route, huh? A smart, but not wise move."-Ben grin

"Dragon Slayer Secret Technique! Shattering Light: Sky Drill!"-Wendy

Wendy move her hands counter clock-wise. She generate a strong wind blast, similar with her roar, but it's denser and stronger. The wind blast move toward Ben at a high speed and Ben grin. Ben take a deep breath, and a magic circle appear on his mouth.

"Sun Dragon's Roar!"-Ben

Ben make a dragon roar attack. The Sun Dragon's roar is the combination of fire and light. It has red & yellow color on it, and it's very hot and fast. Ben's dragon roar is nothing compared to the real dragon's roar, but it's still stronger than Wendy's attack.

*BOOM*

Ben's attack blast through Wendy's attack and destroy it completely. The fire light roar still move toward Wendy. But before it can reach Wendy, Roubaul appear in front of her and make a magic circle in front of him. The magic circle is not straight, but leaning at 45 degree angle.

"Reflector!"-Roubaul

The red-yellow blast hit the magic circle and it get redirected to the sky, then dispersed.

"So that's Ben nii-san's full power roar attack. That's a very strong attack."-Wendy

"For a 10 y.o, that is."-Roubaul

"Is that really strong for a 10 y.o?"-Ben

"Yeah, that's certainly above average, but it's not the best yet. There are many geniuses that can use stronger magic than you when they're 10, so you shouldn't be complacent boy!"-Roubaul

"I know, i never thought of myself as a genius, because i have a feeling that i will stop improving if i think like that. However, this sparring didn't seem to be effective for both of us. How about you train with us, gramps? Wendy & me vs you?"-Ben

"I agree with Ben nii-san."-Wendy

"Hmm, it can improve your teamwork too, so why not?"-Roubaul

Ben & Wendy then discuss a strategy to fight Roubaul.

"The old man is a lot stronger than us, so we shouldn't waste our magic power by using big attacks. We'll attack at close range with simple magic that didn't use a lot of magic power. I will be the main attacker, and you support me."-Ben

"Should i use enchantment on you?"-Wendy

"No, save your mp! This is a sparring, a training, so use this chance to train your fighting skills!"-Ben

"I understand."-Wendy

Ben & Wendy finish their discussion, and they get ready on their side. Ben is a little on the front, while Wendy is on the rear. Roubaul can guess their strategy, but he will play along with them. It's his chance to train them to be strong mages after all.

Roubaul give the start signal, and Ben rush to him. Ben cover his leg with yellow light, and hand with red fire. This is just a basic usage of magic that every mages can use. This basic magic have different properties based on their elements.

Ben use light element on his leg to help him move faster. He use fire on his hand to increase his attack power. Right now Ben can only use these 2 elements from sun, but he have learned a lot about these 2, and know it's best usage.

Ben run at high speed toward Roubaul and send a fire punch. Roubaul block his punch easily with a slap to the side. Ben then start to attack Roubaul with his trained martial art. He use combination of punch and kick, powered with magic. He even try to use grab sometime, but Roubaul can always read his attacks and counter it.

Wendy also join in the fray by attacking Roubaul from behind and the sides. She attack between the gap of Ben's attacks. Ben has deliberately create gaps for Wendy to attack. He will use his own attack when Wendy attack to make it harder for Roubaul, but the old man still can see it.

They keep sparring for an hour and Wendy finally give up. Then after 4 hours, Ben also give up after his stamina really get depleted, and he faint. Roubaul didn't even sweat after 4 hours and he still seem to be full of energy.

"Hohoho, i still have my touch."-Roubaul
