Entry 19 - Test (Aloe)

If there is anything I learned while working for Kyrell, it's that he really wants the inn to exist for the sake of keeping his grandparents' memory alive, because his aunts and uncles would sell the place since it was no longer generating money for them. That, and the fact that he can use it as a reason to stay away from his family, but more so the first one.

But today, I learned just the extent of how much he's done. When I met his grandmother in the inn.

I didn't even know it was her, she was just relaxing on the terrace, looking over the garden with a soft smile. For an old lady, she was beautiful and that was why I ended up staring at her for just a bit too long, that she ended up noticing and inviting me to sit with her.

I really would've refused but for some reason, I was inclined not to, so I went ahead and did so. But what I didn't realise was that I was going to get interrogated instead, albeit in a very casual manner.

Our conversation started off normal enough with her asking me things about the inn, how long I've been there and why I'm there in the first place. According to her, I looked way too cute to be working in the inn.

I told her it was the only place I could be, however, I guess she took this as an opportunity to test my loyalty since she started going wild, accusing Kyrell of blackmailing me or something all because I was too pretty.

Seriously this lady really threw that word around nearly every single sentence she spoke.

Obviously, I couldn't let this go on, since I feared that she would have the wrong idea about Kyrell so I explained to her why I was glad to be a part of the inn.

Of course, I didn't get too personal, so I just told her how Kyrell became my saviour during the most difficult time of my life, how he kept me up even when it looked like I had nothing left and how he managed to make me move forward and become a better person as a result. I really poured my heart out onto every word I said, I wanted her to realise Kyrell's greatness so I made sure to give as many good points as I could.

By the end of it, she had a massive smile on her face and she thanked me for showing her so much before leaving me be. At the time, I didn't know what that was all about, I found it weird that she suddenly changed from ranting to thanking me, but I thought I just managed to convince her is all.

The Kyrell introduced me to her and my jaw just dropped to the floor. I was so shocked I'm pretty sure I stuttered a lot when she greeted me properly.

Kyrell told me that his grandparents were visiting but since they wanted to come in as normal guests they told Kyrell to keep it a secret from the staff. Which he wasn't all too fond of, but as their grandson, he had no choice but to go with it.

Apparently, all the questioning I went through was just a test, she did this with every other employee before me as well. According to her, she does it since she can't always be by his side, she can't share some of the burden he's taken on for himself even though it was mostly her own memories. So she tests the employees to know whether they are willing to share some of the responsibility that Kyrell's been carrying.

Hearing that only made my heart ache though, sure I was happy that I was good enough for Kyrell, but the fact that it came to the point that family can't help him is a bit heartbreaking. I could tell his grandmother cared for him greatly, but with how different their positions were, it was difficult to give him any help.

Guess even though she's the head of the family, she had her hands tied when it came to interacting with Kyrell.

After she went to bed Kyrell approached me and apologised for anything his grandmother did. How sweet, but really I'm somewhat glad I was tested, I don't want anyone to think that my dedication to Kyrell is false, and if I managed to prove that to his grandmother then I can prove it to anyone.

Wonder if this will score me points with Kyrell… wait no, bad Aloe control yourself, winter has barely started!
