Chapter 82
(Unedited)
…
The whole city is embroiled in fear because of what happened last night. The media are covering it all over the news and people are talking about it on the streets, in public vehicles, and in their work. The chaotic scene they have seen on TV is something that never happened in the inner city before, so everyone is feeling the fear of the situation escalating.
It has now enveloped all of the citizens but they could not do anything about it. Although they wanted to say something, their hearts are filled with fear towards the government governing the inner city.
Those who could not tolerate it was taken down by the police themselves and are sent to the outer wall which they would suffer in poverty and hopelessness. So people have no choice but to grit their teeth and endure.
Meanwhile, the news suddenly displayed the picture of the culprit which causes the chaos yesterday. It is the picture of a young man. The news told about the story of Xin Wei and his history of being a criminal.
They told the people that he was once the young man who murdered his own childhood friend and escaped the authorities.
And now he is going on a rampage. So they ask the citizen to cooperate with the authorities to subjugate the culprit so that they can capture him and bring to justice those he killed.
This news did not stop and has been on the air for the whole morning.
Meanwhile, in a large courtyard that looks like an ancient Chinese house, a few people are practicing martial arts. They are showing forms in a uniform manner while following the person atop the stage.
Their shout echoed around the large courtyard as everyone followed the man.
Outside the large door where an ancient-looking wooden plaque could be seen which say 'Su Sect Manor', a tall young man wearing simple clothes is standing.
"What are you here for?" asked a person wearing a martial arts uniform that suddenly came out from the small door on the side.
"I am here to practice. I want to learn martial arts…" the young man said.
Looking at his clothes and his face, the man wearing a martial arts uniform showed an uninterested expression.
"If you can open any of these doors in the front, then you can be accepted as an inner sect disciple. If not, then you can just enter that small door over there and pay 10,000 city H credits, then you can be accepted as an outer sect disciple." The man explained.
The young man nodded his head and then walks to the door. The young man lifted his face and looks at the door. With a long scar on his face and a slightly ugly appearance, he looks fierce.
But in truth, this young man is Xin Wei.
He is just wearing a disguise which is one of the things he has learned.
In his stat skills, there was an added active skill called 'mask'. When he began to practice creating a disguise on his face, this ability suddenly appeared in his skill stats and it is an active skill.
And now he has changed his looks into a fierce young man who seems to be a part of a small gang.
…
"If I push this door, I would easily enter this place as an inner disciple. But that would also alarm my target and might even leave… She thinks that I did not know her background… that is where she is wrong." I thought as I decided to change my mind.
I pretend that I was not able to push the door and the man behind me chuckled.
I lowered my head and walk towards the guy. I handed him my card and after scanning, he grinned.
He then gave me a wooden plate that says, outer sect disciple.
I was able to enter through the small door.
As soon as I stepped inside, I could see a large courtyard filled with people. Some look at me with curiosity in their eyes while others did not mind my presence. Everyone in this place only has one thing in their mind… and that is to train and practice martial arts.
As I walk to another area, I saw four platforms that seem to be the platforms for martial arts sparring sessions. Then I saw a few people cleaning the surroundings wearing gray martial arts uniforms. They seem to be the lowest on the ladder in this place and are used as cleaners.
I was led to a burly man sitting leisurely behind an old desk.
"Senior Kwan… We have a new recruit, he paid…" the man who led me said.
"Oh!... That is good… Welcome… Welcome… Hehe…" the burly man said as he showed a wide grin on his face.
He stood up and grabs a pair of gray clothing and also a pair of old gray-colored martial arts shoes.
"Take this and wear them. While in this place, you can only wear these nothing more." He said.
He then gave me a pamphlet that shows the rules inside the sect. In this place, money is irrelevant and only points count. The points system is simple and direct.
If you defeat a single opponent, you will get 2 points.
Each new recruit has 10 points, if they are challenged and defeated, then they would lose 2 points, and those points will be given to the victor.
To earn a point, one should do chores or do missions related to the sect.
Depending on the difficulty of the mission, one can earn more points.
The reason to gather points is for one to be able to learn more martial arts techniques, secret abilities, alchemy books, alchemy materials, weapons, armors, and more.
I discovered that the Su sect has actually already fully used the Qi in the air and has built a secret within their walls. And this secret is like those that could be seen in the movies, people they called cultivators.
However, to be a cultivator, one should be able to gain more points to get the secret of using Qi.
When I read to this point, my eyes suddenly showed interest.
I soon discovered that the top part of the sect is where the outer sect is. Then in the underground, is where the inner sect is located.
The inner sect is a secret place and is not open to the public. Only those privileged few can enter that place.
And besides the inner sect, there is the core sect training ground. This is where the core disciples are located, and I saw a familiar name among them, Su Binghei. She is a part of the core sect disciples.
"It seems that my target is going to be hard to reach this time…" I thought.
This is because there is only one way in and one way out according to what I could see so far. So the only thing, I could do now is to progress through the ranks until I get the full idea on how to enter that place, or if I get a chance to encounter Su Binghei outside.
I then enter a wide room where there are many wooden bunk beds. I choose a bed in the corner which looks old and dilapidated. But it seems that no one wanted to choose this bed, so I gladly accepted it for myself.
There are people inside the wide room. Some of them are changing while others are recuperating because of their injuries.
When I took off my shirt someone who is lying on one of the beds near mine whistled.
"Wew… That's a lot of scars…" he said.
I turned to the side and saw a young man with long hair tied in a ponytail. He looks like someone from the martial arts world in the movies.
I did not say anything and just nodded my head.
When he saw my face, his expression immediately changes. It seems that he was a bit scared or startled upon seeing my face.
But that is the result I wanted to see.
I'm not here to be friendly or anything. I just wanted to do two things. One is to learn to improve my martial arts skills and the second is to kill Su Binghei, the rest is trivial.
After changing, I was about to leave when the guy suddenly said.
"You're new right?"
I stopped and nodded my head.
"A word of advice… do not provoke anyone. Do not show off your menial skill. If not then your points will be easily taken from you by the seniors… Low-key is the key to surviving." He said while pointing to another person lying on the lower bunk bed.
"That guy was beaten yesterday after entering the outer sect. He shows off in front of the seniors and fights them instead of just handing his points to them."
"Though they cannot force you to hand your points, they can still beat you. As long as you did not die, they would not suffer any consequences." The young man explained.
"And what happened to you?" I asked while looking at his leg which seems to be wrapped in bandages.
He then showed a crafty smile on his face and then winks.
I immediately knew that this guy is skiving from his duties and practice.
