Wedding Crash

Anna stared at her reflection in the mirror and grimaced. She couldn't believe that she was doing this.

Her brother, Elijah, has yet to propose, yet here she was, dressing up to attend a wedding for someone she didn't even know.

"Stay away from Kristofer Almodiel," she mimicked Nikki's advice, slapping her hand on her forehead and letting out a groan.

"Stay away, my ass," she muttered, holding her frustration in check.

"Who does he think he is?" she went on, inserting the other pair of pearl earrings on her left ear. It was too easy to shoo Kristofer Almodiel away and leave him to deal with Anna minding her business.

To say the least, she didn't even say yes to his proposal. However, Kristofer Almodiel knew how to play the game.

There was no way Anna would have agreed to be his plus one at his friend's wedding without a catch.

She hardly knew anyone from Kristofer Almodiel's circle. Aside from that, it could be dangerous if someone from her past would recognize her.

Anna was no social butterfly. If anything, she would prefer to be left out of parties and any social gatherings.

But after setting up her company, she had to go out of her comfort zone and do what she thought was impossible to achieve.

It was probably because of her intentionally approaching Brett Prestman that Kristofer Almodiel seemed to have caught on and made him the bait for her to come with him.

She was basically about to crash a wedding just to continue her mission.

So far, Anna has never given up on her clients. No matter how difficult it was to find ways to approach the person of interest, Anna was willing to take the extra measures.

When she had first taken the job, Anna knew that it was never going to be easy.

But, if life were meant to be easy, no one would ever be sad or be in a situation where they want to run away and shut out the entire universe.

Staring back at her reflection, the midnight blue color of her off-shoulder dress highlighted her features. It was one of her favorite colors simply because it made her feel pretty all the time.

Anna took a deep breath and sighed.

"Well, Anna, you did try to run away, right? Yet, running never solves any problems. Although, hiding was almost the same as running. Hypocrite."

Anna scoffed and shook her head. She was indeed a hypocrite. But she never regretted erasing herself and hiding from the rest of the world.

She didn't start a new identity. She was still Anna Mendoza. Yet, she had limited the people she allowed inside her circle.

The old Anna was vulnerable. It took her some time to toughen herself, and Anna was somewhat proud of who she had become.

However, she was left uncertain what her brother and grandmother would think of her when they found out what she was doing. Her brother would surely be mad. Her grandmother might understand but still reprimand her, too.

It was why Anna knew that neither her brother nor grandmother should know what she had been up to the past year.

For all they cared, she was in another company, stuck inside an office and earning enough to support herself and her simple lifestyle.

Anna sighed for the nth time, forcing herself to smile at her reflection before rolling her eyes upon hearing the doorbell ring.

"Let's get this over and done with Anna."

Most people have been aware of Kristofer's dating habits, and it was no surprise to any if he was to bring random women to events he was invited.

Both his father and mother knew that as well.

However, he knew his mother would most likely notice Anna and eventually conclude who she was. But did he care? Kristofer mentally shook his head.

His mother can interrogate him later, but right now, he wants to enjoy being in her presence and witness the annoyance visible through her eyes.

Grace and her groom were exchanging wedding vows, and Kristofer found himself staring at Anna.

She was wearing an off-shoulder midnight blue dress, which made her pretty features stand out. It hugged her body in the right places. He also noticed the light touch of make-up on her face.

She didn't look so different from the photo of them taken on his birthday. Kristofer was also grateful that Grace considered his wish to have a separate table from his parents.

He didn't want to make Anna feel intimidated. His mother could be like that on a few occasions, and Kristofer didn't need any of that. His mother can either approve or disapprove of Anna, but that doesn't matter.

Anna had piqued his interest, and that was enough.

Taking a sip from the champagne flute in his hand, Kristofer crossed his legs and leaned back on his seat.

Anna was restless. She noticed a few curious stares sent her way since they arrived. Of course, another flood of reporters took a photo of them.

But this time, Anna evaded looking right in front of one like she and Kristofer were some happy couple.

Having her face exposed once was enough. Having it exposed twice would be a different story altogether.

In addition, she was feeling agitated upon approaching Brett Prestman. He was at the table directly opposite where she and Kristofer were.

A gorgeous woman around his age was with him, and he had been whispering in her ears non-stop. It was not enough for Anna to conclude that he was a jerk, though.

What if she was his new girlfriend and not just a random fling? As much as possible, Anna didn't want to make any mistakes.

Punishing the bad guy was her focus, and the innocent shouldn't be included. So, after the wedding of Kristofer's friend, Anna should be able to decide whether Brett Prestman was innocent or guilty.

In truth, Anna was hoping that he wasn't guilty. He seemed nice upon their initial meeting.

But that was how they usually were at the start.

It isn't until you drop your guard that they pounce and take you for granted.
