Chapter 23: Priority and responsibility

Wake Louchette

The whole team was on fire. We individually moved to get out of this facility. The automated doors opened up to secure our safety. The emergency alarm was horning in red throughout this small hallway. My members promptly followed the instructions I gave to them at the last minute.

"Lance! Push the button now!" I hurriedly asked Lance to look for the button that activates the barrier between the hallway and that room inside the facility to block the water from spreading.

"Alexis, help me close the doors!" Gabriel was in a panic as he tried to close one of the doors where the water started to spread. Alexis immediately went to help.

I glanced towards Elaine, who was getting the documents we had. I moved nearer to her as I tried to carry my legs from this heavy water, strong current.

I stopped when a pile of laboratory instruments blocked my way. "Elaine! Go with Aniela to shut down all the programmed machines we had in this facility that were functioning!" I said to avoid electrical problems afterward. It's better to do it manually this time.

On the other hand, Aniela convinced Christian to move because that guy was attempting to fix the broken tube. I guess he forgot that the water goes non-stop because of Sarah's outside the world activity. However, Christian was persistent even though Aniela reminded him about Sarah.

"No! No! No! We need to move out!" She pleaded.

Everyone in this room except Sarah was alarmed by the situation. We never expected that things went this way. All of us assumed, including me, that things will go easy and smooth because they knew that Sarah and I were no longer strangers to each other. I know I was assuming too much at some point.

We failed to forecast the events that might happen along the way. Including the possibilities as we perform our tasks. It was too hard to admit it, but we were incompetent at this moment.

The wind passed through me with coldness brought by Sarah's magical phenomenon. At first glance, it is impossible to have winds inside this isolated facility, but it was no longer a question since a presence of supernatural was there.

As my members ran towards the only floating door that opened, I stopped and faced Sarah for a while. I know she can escape the waters. But the thing was, I don't think she knew how to use her ability exactly. Basing on how she moved and reacted right now, she was not used to it.

Should I leave her here?

She was there, standing in the middle of this flood atmosphere. Those eyes turned into the ocean blue. It gave her more attitude and glamour.

It was a lively color, circulating like tides. But, it was new to the eyes of every human being.

Unbelievable.

"Wake! Please go out! The water is getting deeper!" Hisha shouted in hopes of totally escaping the flooding. Due to her reminder, it was the time when I noticed that the waters were now on a hips level.

I roamed my eyes around me, and I saw that the waters were getting higher. I also felt colder when as seconds passed. The vapor slowly became suffocating. It's time to get out of here.

I turned my back away from Sarah and went towards Hisha. She lent her hand for my reach to guide me towards the floating door, which leads to the other side of the building's office.

My hand was an inch far from hers, but in an unknown moment, I stilled for a while. Hisha noticed my hesitation, her eyes furrowed, full of questions to my sudden pause.

I did not know any reasons behind this, but there was something inside my head that kept on telling me not to leave.

It distracted my entire thoughts, and I can't concentrate. So I had decided to grabbed away my hand and looked back at Sarah.

She was still in her current state, but a few seconds from the time I observed this young lady in front of my sight, her eyes turned back to their original brown color. And so, Sarah gained back her consciousness as a human. Her eyes were terrified as she witnessed the flowing waters in the surrounding. The eyebrows above her blinking eyelids looked ditch.

She finally felt the water's below the average temperature as she arched her body to create minimal heat.

She was stuck.

I can see her chest finding it hard to gain her normal breathing back. She even closed her eyes while recovering the pain she felt in her head.

Her foot slipped a little, and she almost lost her balance after that. Unfortunately, she nearly fell into the waters. I gasped in silence.

My body quivered in alarm of what had happened to her. So I immediately ran in full hopes to keep her from drowning.

I made myself passed against the current and the waters high level. And the last time I knew, I found myself catching her from the back.

Gottcha!

I held her hips tight while her head left without support. Because of this, I grabbed her closer to mine. I placed my right arm under her legs and my other arm supporting her back. The splashing of waters absorbed by her clothes was loud.

After I managed to carry her with my arms, I looked at her unconscious face. It looked peaceful and admittedly comfortable. The glowing skin she had a while ago turned back to a usual person's skin. Her hair transformed from being silky back to how usually wet hair looked. I think because she was no longer under the influence of her extraordinary capability.

I looked around the waters. The current surprisingly went calm.

The waves stopped in a snap.

-

I stood in front of a large, towering circular glass with a height that ranged up to ten floors. We had placed Sarah in the middle with a cube glass that served as support to her back as she sat down, totally unconscious. Her body was lousy.

After the incident that happened lately, the machines drained the waters in that facility, and workers hiked to put everything back to its original state.

Going back, I never detached my eyes away from Sarah. I wanted to see her waking up. I care about her suffering, and I can't afford to blame myself for all the pain she experienced and will experience as we go through the process of examining her.

I sighed.

I glanced towards the other scientists surrounding the place. They slowly activated the machines needed for her supplies of oxygen and food. Later on, I heard footsteps coming towards my direction.

"Mr. Steeven asked us if we could finalize the observation we did in the plant and would defend it to the board as well." Hisha directly said without even positioning herself first. Well, I knew she was hurrying. I mean, this urgent information she brought says so.

Aside from us conducting our analysis, the board members also did the same. That is why, aside from confirming facts, we likewise need to defend our findings.

I remained in my position. I did not mind facing Hisha. I don't have the sense of responsibility to talk about the latter and work with that said plant. All I think right now was to focus on Sarah.

"Made a short appointment with our team. You lead the process. You discuss everything." I commanded with a tone of order, making sense of our co-worker's relationship status.

I heard Hisha was about to say something, but she did not continue. I think it was something that contradicted my instruction to her. Nevertheless, at the end of the conversation, she agreed. She bowed her head and left.

My head tilted as I saw Sarah moving an inch. My forehead became furrowed, and my eyes widened, focusing more of my attention on her.

Finally, she is awake.

When her eyes fully opened, she wondered at the surroundings. She mistakenly looked at the lights above her that produced higher intensity, which caused her to look away. It only took a second, but she was too affected. I was wondering why.

I can't explain what I felt when her eyes dropped at mine. The effect was different; it made me feel relieved. She was stunned as she saw me looking at her. I didn't understand her actions, and it was hard to guess what she might be thinking or felt.

Suddenly, her eyes ran towards my arms and stopped right exactly at my hand where the wound, caused by the branches of the Narra tree located. I was quizzing when she did that.

What's that?

Her face lightened up as she spotted the exact areas of my wounds. The brown-colored eyes of hers became blue once again. I felt a bit terrifying atmosphere that caused my body to become more conscious of what was going on.

My eyes kept on switching, looking at her and my wounds. Later, that anyone has not given single attention to it, failed to see the miraculous event she did.
