It was up to Brian to make the rest of the plan work. He was working on an exchange for Dom's freedom. Dom had to do his part, calling Gisele. Regan was to stay the fuck out of it, according to Brian.
"Get Campos." Dom said into the phone. The siblings looked over at him. "Was that how Braga inspires loyalty, killing his drivers?" Dom continued on, pausing for a reply. "I want a trade." Regan waited as Brian went back to the car. "Fine, then you explain to him how all of a sudden 60 million dollars' worth of product disappears. I know that can't be good for business."
Regan smiles at Dom, Brian smacking the back of her thigh. She flipped her brother off as Dom continued.
"Six million cash delivered by Braga himself." Dom said. "I don't like being shot at. I ain't gonna put my neck out again unless he's got something to lose, too." Dom paused. "Either I deal with Braga or you do."
Regan was very much a fan of the way Dom did things. Much better than Brian's corner-cutting.
The three stood by the car with the shipment. Dom's arms were crossed as well as Regan's as she leaned against the car. Brian had his hands in his pockets.
"Well the good news is, when we get this guy, you walk outta here a free man." Brian told Dom.
"Is that what they told you?" Dom replied.
"Yeah, that's the deal." Brian answered. Regan shook her head, her hair flowing with the motion.
"You still put milk and cookies out for Santa Claus?" Dom asked.
"Every year." Regan answered, looking to Brian. Brian broke out a smile.
Brian handed Dom the key to the car. "Here. In case things go to shit."
"Just like old times." Dom replied.
"Yeah." Brian replied. "Except this time, you're taking my sister."
"What?" Regan asked.
"You dropped something." Felix called. Campos stopped him.
"He's harmless- don't worry about him." Campos told Dom. Regan looked down at the ground.
Tell that to Letty.
"And he's really sorry about Letty." Campos said. "Where's our stuff?"
Brian walked over to the trunk. "You mean the stuff that used to be in here, right?" He asked. "Well, you'll see it when we see Braga."
Regan watched Campos carefully.
"That was the deal." Brian finished.
"No worries." Campos replied. Regan read the worry on his face. His eyes were wider than usual, smile forced. "Braga keeps his word."
Campos turned away from them, Brian looking to Dom.
"Brian-" Regan whispered.
"Not now, Rae." He shushed her.
"Bri-"
"Regan." He tried again as the fake Braga got out of the car. He was slow getting out of the car, a normal, unbothered pace. His stride grew as he got closer, as if he'd forgotten to play the part from the start. Rae figured it out.
"Two million." 'Braga' told Dom. "You'll get the rest when I get my property."
Dom and Brian looked at him, their eyes narrowing.
"I got a question for you. You wearin' pink when you were clawing your way out of the barrio?" Brian asked.
"Brian." Regan tried again.
"You thinkin' what I'm thinkin', right?" Brian asked.
"We should've listened to Regan." Dom answered.
"That's not Braga." Rae announced.
"FBI!"
"Oh, shit!" Rae yelled.
"Get down!" Brian yelled to the fake Braga.
They all got down. All but Dom.
"Get out of here!" Brian yelled to him. "Get her out of here, Dom!" Campos and Felix got into a car, attempting to speed off. "Campos is Braga!" Brian yelled.
"We established this, Bri!" Rae yelled.
Regan watched as Dom sped off with Gisele.
"Primary suspect is secure." The Feds announced.
Brian stood, pulling his sister with him.
"What the hell, Bri?" She asked.
"How did you know?" He asked her. Regan shrugged.
"I just did." She answered.
Regan had always imagined this house. The Toretto house she'd heard so much about. She followed Brian out to the garage.
"Everyone's looking for you." Brian told Dom.
"I'm right here." Dom replied.
"We knew." Regan said.
"It's nice to see you go through the times and switched to electronic fuel injection." Brian took notice of the car. "Looks good. I'm goin' with you."
"We're going with you." Regan corrected.
"I don't plan on bringing anyone back." Dom replied.
"I know." Brian said.
"We know." Regan corrected softly.
"Hit that throttle." Dom told Bri. He did, his head snapping up quickly when Mia made her way home. He went to catch up with her, Dom and Regan watching after him. Dom turned to her, Regan offering him a small smile.
Rae stood next to Brian as Mia said her goodbyes to Dom. Bri draped his arm over her.
"For as long as I can help it, you'll never have to say goodbye to me." He told her.
"Promise?" She asked.
"I promise."
Rae wrapped her arms around his waist before the pair climbed into the car.
When Rae woke up, it was light out and the car was parked.
"Morning, sunshine." Brian greeted. "Come on."
She followed him out of the car and up to the front, leaning against the hood as Dom leaned against his. Brian threw rocks as a car pulled up to them, Gisele getting out.
Regan took a rock from Brian, throwing it down the hill herself. She watched the dirt kick up from the impact.
"So, this is where my jurisdiction ends." Brian said.
"On official business." Regan commented.
"This is where mine begins." Dom replied.
Brian was lucky Regan wasn't the type to get car sick, nor was she the type to hate long car rides. She could occupy herself, looking out the window but sometimes bothering her brother made it so much better.
"I spy with my little eye something...brown." Regan said.
"Dirt?" Brian asked.
Regan gasped. "How did you know?"
"I spy with my little eye something...grey." Brian said.
"Grey?" Rae asked.
"Our destination." Bri replied, parking the car.
"Well played, brother. Well played." Rae smiled.
She quietly followed Brian and Dom, Brian's little handgun in her little hands. Dom was in front with the shotgun.
"You ain't forgiven." He told Braga, pointing the gun at him.
"You boys going to arrest me?" Braga asked.
"We're beyond that." Brian answered.
"Fitting you chose a church." Rae teased. She leaned down, whispering. "Are you ready to meet your maker?"
"You can't buy your way out of this one." Dom commented.
"Hermano, you and me...we're not so different." Braga told Dom. "You're no hero."
Dom cocked the gun. Regan's eyes flashed from Dom to Braga and back.
"You're right and that's why you're going back across the border." Dom said.
Regan and Brian both looked up at Dom.
"But Felix is mine." Dom finished.
"You got it." Brian agreed as he cuffed Braga.
They slipped out of the church; Braga cuffed with them.
"You're with Dom." Brian told Regan. "I've got Braga."
"Let's go." Dom called to Rae.
She slipped into the passenger's seat of Dom's car. They followed close behind Brian, making every sharp turn presented to them. Regan jumped at the sound of gunshots behind them.
"Fuck finally." She mumbled. "Remind me if I ever decide to run a cartel to get people I can rely on."
Dom laughed. "Am I one of those people?"
"That depends on if we survive." She answered.
Dom nodded. "Right behind you." He radioed to Brian.
Regan didn't like not being with Brian but that though was shoved out of her head as Dom drove straight on into a truck.
"That's one way to do it." She commented as the truck rolled down the hill.
"Dom, into the tunnel. Let's use the tunnel." Brian's voice carried through.
"Not the damn tunnel." Regan mumbled. She hated that tunnel.
They were surrounded, cars coming from God knows where. Dom sent his elbow through the window, aiming his shotgun at the tires of the cars around us.
"Wow." Regan mumbled. "That was kinda cool." She released her grip on the seats.
"Get out of here, Brian." Dom radioed in.
Bri kept driving, Dom and Rae a bit behind him as he blew through the tunnel opening.
"Lucky bastard." Rae mumbled as she and Dom finally made it in.
Dom was focused as Regan dug her nails back into the seat. She was worried about Brian but didn't really have the mental capacity to deal with that and her own mortality at the same time. Add Dom to the mix and the poor girl was beyond overwhelmed.
She and Dom jolted with the car as the back was hit into. Dom was trying to lose them, opening the car door. "Follow me." He told Rae. She climbed over into the other car as he threw the original driver out.
"Holy shit." She whispered, settling into the passenger's seat. Dom kept going, blowing through the tunnels just barely in time. Felix had his gun pointed at Brian. He noticed Dom, Pointing and shooting in Regan's direction. Rae jolted when Dom pulled the front end of the car off the ground, sending it straight into Felix. Regan finally released her death grip on the seat, taking in the scene in front of her.
"Pussy." Dom commented at Felix's dead body that laid on the hood.
"Rae?" Brian called.
"Holy shit, Brian." She cried, rushing to him. Dom beat her there, helping him up. His arm and face were bloody.
"Let me see that." Dom told him. "Yeah, just keep pressure there." Dom told Rae. "He'll be all right."
"You gotta get out of here." Brian told Dom.
"I'll keep pressure. Go." Regan told him, too.
"I ain't runnin' anymore." Dom told them.
"I gotta ask you something." Brian told Dom.
"Yeah?" Dom asked.
"You know I would've won that race if you didn't cheat, right?" Brian asked.
"I hate you sometimes." Rae told her brother.
"You hit your head, huh?" Dom asked.
Brian laughed painfully. Rae smiled.
"Don't make me laugh." Bri told Dom. The sirens grew closer.
The gavel tapped. "All rise." They were told. Regan stood; Brian next to her with Mia next to him. "Please be seated."
"Please rise, Mr. Toretto." The judge ordered. Dom stood, covered in orange. "I've listened to the testimony and taken into special consideration agent O'Connor's appeal of clemency on behalf of Mr. Toretto as well as the claim made by witness Regan O'Connor. That his actions directly resulted in the apprehension of known drug trafficker, Arturo Braga. However, this judiciary finds that one right does not make up for a lifetime of wrongs and is such, I find that i am forced to level the maximum sentence under California law." Brian stood, leaving behind Regan and Mia.
"Dominic Toretto, you are hereby sentenced to serve twenty-five years to life at the Lompoc maximum security prison system without the possibility of early parole. This court is adjourned." The gavel tapped once more.
Regan pressed the gas petal to the floor. The engine revved, causing a light vibration under her seat. She smiled, her windows down to blow out her blonde hair. She kept close to the line, Mia in front of her as Brian moved over to the other lane. Bri and Mia went around the bus, both passing ahead of it. Regan turned the wheel, switching lanes. Rae looked up, spotting Dom through the window.
They both smiled.
