War 2

< Kara POV>

Having a helicopter in these times is a huge help when you have to get fast to a place without worrying about looters or zombies. And while I was glad that Alexander decided to send me with three of Eric's soldiers to their base, I still can't believe how we are going to war with a tyrant, or at least that's what I heard from Eric's men.

Being lost in my thoughts, I didn't notice that one of the women that decided to return to the base with us was calling my name.

"Hey, are you listening?"

I turned my head towards her so that I could speak with her properly." Sorry, I was thinking about something. Do you need something from me?"

"Well, yes, but not really… I just want to speak with you. Being the only girls on this helicopter, I thought to start a conversation with you if you don't mind, of course."

I smiled at her remark. It's true that we are the only women on the helicopter and speaking with her doesn't sound that bad. I may even get to know more about Eric and his people. "Sure, I don't have a problem with that. Name's Kara Brown."

"Nice to meet you, Kara, I'm Amanda Shepherd. So how did you guys arrive here?"

"Well, Eric's father, or at least that's what we deduced he was, assigned us to clear a hive. That huge creature we call a hive is basically a slow huge zombie horde that managed to create a walking tank and in order to kill it, we had to enter inside and blow the original zombie or the hearth as we call it. After we destroyed the hive, Alexander told us what Doctor Jarl told him about what he's going to do and he sends Alexander with a mission of finding Eric and give him the message that all of us heard earlier today."

"Wow, that's quite the story you guys have there."

"Yeah, unfortunately, some of us didn't manage to get free and had fallen in the line of duty. By the way, tell me more about you guys, of course, if you don't want to hear more sad stories of my life in the army."

"Gladly, I was a police officer before the outbreak. I and my colleagues were tasked with a group of survivors and we had to bring them to the military refuge, or at least that was the plan. Unfortunately for us, we were ambush by a group of zombies, and only I and a friend of mine escaped alive. After that, we decide to head towards the metro and that's where Eric people saved us and when we decided to join him. After that, we helped where we could. Going with the scavenging teams or training people on how to shot and defend themselves or taking guard duties as most of the people there."

For the next ten minutes, we continue to tell each other stories or just gossip, and slowly, but surely we start getting to know each other a little bit better. I learned a lot about how Eric's base works and I've got to say that he's a lucky bastard for having so many knowledgeable and trustworthy men and women by his side. Even when he was down after an unfortunate event, his people took his place to keep the whole community together and safe until he recovered, and even now, with a mechanical arm, he was still going on missions and that earned the respect of many people. But one thing got my interest and that is the sniper squad led by a guy named Jon just like my friend. I hope that he's the guy and that we can meet again. When I was just a recruit, he taught me all of the things I know and I slowly start developing a small crush on him, but when we got separated and I had to survive on my own until Alexander found me, my crush, at least in mind had died when we got separated. As for Nicolas, Alexander's brother, we become friends, but from what he told me, he had a girlfriend that died and didn't want another relation this soon, which was ok for me as I saw him as a little brother.

While the two of us were chatting, I heard Samuel's voice.

"Prepare for landing, guys, and don't do anything stupid."

When we landed on the ground, the first person to greet us was a woman.

"Welcome to your future home. I'm Olivia."

Samuel was the first one to greet her while the rest of us were looking around the camp.

"Glad to see you, Miss Olivia. I'm Samuel and this is my crew. As much as would like to chat with you, we have a problem."

"I know, Maxson informed us over the radio. Paul and Andrew are preparing the soldiers while I will remain here to protect the base in case something unexpected happens."

"I'm glad then. Unfortunately, my helicopter can't take more than fifteen people and some supplies with us."

"Don't worry about that, the rest of our soldiers will come with Andrew and Paul."

"That's good then. Well, then, can I ask for a quick resupply, of course, if you guys have helicopter fuel and a meal for my men?"

"No problem with the meal and as for the fuel, I think there may be some fuel in the bunker, but I'm not sure about that. I will have to ask to be sure."

"No problem. I'm grateful for the meal and if you guys have the fuel it will also be great."

"I'm glad I could help. Amanda escorts them towards the cafeteria so that they may eat something."
