Fearful now of her suggestion she look in on the others, I pushed through the door and exhaled relief when I saw nothing had been disturbed. The room on the other side of the door felt like a prison, though the plain white walls and single glass pane separating one side from the other was far from a jail cell. Still, the banks of shelving units lined with ordinary household items made me shiver, despite their plain and humdrum appearance.
