Yun had just returned back to the office and had an ugly frown on his face when his secretary told him about the pictures circulating online.
If there was anything he hated, it was being involved in scandals and it was worse when he didn't even like the person.
His phone suddenly began to ring and when he checked, he saw it was the 'pen thief' calling and his heart skipped.
For some reason, he suddenly began to feel guilty.
"I didn't do anything wrong." He reminded himself with a frown before he took the call.
"Wang Yun!" She yelled into the phone, making him jump in shock.
"How could you do that? How could you go out on a date with my sister?" She asked him angrily.
He heard the annoyance in her voice and frowned in confusion. What right did she have to question him?
"Why aren't you answering me?" She asked again when he remained quiet.
"Are you this aggressive?" He asked her in a voice that was far softer than hers.
"You know what? Just come take your pen before I throw it out. It's over between us!"
"Wait what!?" He asked in with surprise and confusion. If she wasn't sounding so serious he would have probably laughed at the joke, but he knew better than to further annoy an angry lady.
"What is over between us?" Was she delusional and was probably thinking they were actually dating already?
Lijuan didn't say anything for a few seconds. He guessed she probably had realised she was acting out of character and said in a defensive voice, "Whatever. Just come get your pen before I throw it out."
"You won't dare." He warned.
He heard her chuckle evilly before she said, "You don't know me very well then." Having said that, she hung up abruptly.
Yun could not believe this. How come he was suddenly in a web with the Mei daughters.
One was crazy and behaved like she had a multiple personality disorder. The other one looked calm but he could see it was only a facade. He had heard there was a third daughter. He only hoped she wasn't like any of them.
"Wonderful! You finally did something right." Madam Wang said immediately she entered inside his office with a big smile on her face.
"You can't just barge into my office everytime." He reminded her for the umpteenth time but the look on her face showed she didn't care about whatever he was saying.
"What do you think about her? She's a lovely lady isn't she?"
"Did you ask the reporters to take those pictures?" He asked while looking at her suspiciously.
"What reporters? I didn't." She said with a confused frown.
When she noticed the suspicious look he was still giving her, she shook her head. "I really didn't. But it doesn't matter. What matters is that you both like each other. Besides there's nothing wrong in having your pictures taken especially if it'll show the world that you have nothing to do with the Klep... well, you know who I'm referring to." She quickly corrected when she noticed the look of displeasure on his face.
"What Like? Who likes who?" He asked looking at her like she was crazy.
"You know I didn't really fancy the Meis or ever thought about letting you marry from there because I don't want that thieving gene to affect my grandchildren. But I'm very sure if you, my perfect son, gets married to their perfect daughter, then there would be no room for that gene." She said in a tone of assurance and pure bliss.
"You're dreaming far ahead mother. I only went there because you asked me to. I do not like her." He said bluntly.
From their date, he had been able to guess she really wasn't in good terms with her sister and if his speculation was correct, then he was sure she had been the one to ask for those photos to be taken.
"I have to go out now." He said to his mother as he took his suit.
He had to go take his pen before the crazy girl got rid of it and he also had to check what his brother had done to the house.
"What do you mean by you do not like her? She's beautiful, intelligent, well mannered and most importantly she doesn't pick things, so what's there not to like?" She asked with a frown.
"You really do not expect me to get involved with two sisters right? Truthfully, if I had known she was Mei Lijuan's elder sister, I never would have gone there."
"You can't–"
"I love you mother." He interrupted her speech with a kiss on the forehead before he disappeared out of the office.
***************
"What's going on? How come you were on the news with Wang Yun?" Mother Mei asked Rong immediately she returned home from the mall.
Mother Mei had been shopping when she saw the news on the large screen at the mall which featured her daughter and her other daughters "pseudo boyfriend".
She had quickly called Rong to come meet her at home and now their cars arrived at the same time in front of their house.
Jiaying who seemed to have been dying of curiosity while waiting for Rong to get back home ran straight outside immediately she saw the cars.
"Sister Rong, I saw the news. What was that?" She asked curiously.
Rong tried her best to keep a straight face but a smile kept forming.
"There is no big deal about it. He just asked me out to have a drink with him."
"Really?" Jiaying asked with shinning eyes.
"And how could you do that when you know there is something going on between your sister and him? Are you trying to create rumours?" Mother Mei asked with a displeased frown.
"It's no big deal mother." Jiaying said while brushing it off like it was nothing. "It was just a drink. What do you mean by rumours?"
"You won't believe who moved into the house next door." Jiaying said in excitement.
"Who?" Mother Mei and Rong asked in Unison.
"I think it's the Wangs. I went over to say 'hi' and Wang Jinhai, the youngest son opened the door."
"Really?" Mother Mei and Rong also asked in unison.
Rong wondered why he hadn't mentioned it to her during their date. She also wondered whether Lijuan knew about it. Well, it didn't matter. She was going to check for herself later and make good use of this opportunity.
"We should continue our conversation inside." Mother Mei said while turning to look at Rong.
As they began to head towards the door, another car arrived and they all turned to see who it was.
"I'm in front of your house, you can come out with the pen now." Yun told Lijuan immediately the call connected and then hung up without allowing her say anything.
Rong frowned when Yun got down from the car but before she could say anything, Lijuan came out from inside the house.
Yun wondered why the family was gathering outside but when he saw Lijuan coming out, he cocked his brow in confusion. he had expected her to charge towards him like a mad dog or enraged bull after her threats earlier but she looked very calm as she approached him.
She really did have a multiple personality disorder. He concluded.
Jiaying glanced at Rong and could tell she was a bit nervous, she couldn't help but wonder what Rong had done.
Mother Mei walked over to Yun just as Lijuan walked past them.
"You can't be doing this to both my daughters. It's either one or the other. Didn't you say you were taking Lijuan out on a date? Why go out with Rong then?" She asked giving Lijuan an apologetic smile. If Yun wanted to play along with her daughter, then he had better do it right.
Rong watched from the side and frowned the more when she heard what her mother said.
"I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. I'll set it straight." Yun said with a bow before turning to look at Lijuan. He wasn't going to embarrass either Lijuan nor Rong even though he knew Rong didn't deserve his pity.
"Get into the car." He told her immediately Mother Mei left them and ushered Rong and Jiaying inside.
"Why? We can talk here." Lijuan said stubbornly.
"Fine then, my pen. Where is it?" He asked her when he noticed her hands were empty and she wasn't meeting his gaze.
"I... couldn't find it." She said in a really low voice while moving from one foot to the other nervously.
Yun took in a deep breath so as to not lose his temper. This... was a big temptation.
"So why did you ask me to come for it?" He asked quietly.
"I thought I still had it but searched everywhere and couldn't find it." She said raising her head to look at him.
"I can't believe we have been going back and forth like this because of a pen." He said while still trying not to blow up.
"I can't believe it also." She seconded with a gentle nod.
"What do you mean by you can't believe it also?" He asked her with a frown. "You caused all of this!" He took another deep breath before he said, "Look, I will appreciate it if you find it. That pen is very important to me, it was given to me by my grandfather." He told her before turning to leave.
"I'm sorry." Lijuan said in a small voice. She hadn't realized how important the pen was.
"Just look for it. And about the date with your sister... It was nothing." Yun said without looking at her.
He drove off without another word but could still see her through his rearview mirror standing exactly where he had left her.
Even though he knew he didn't owe her any explanation he couldn't hold back himself from giving her one. He didn't like her or anything, as far as he was concerned he was just being a decent human.
