A Surprisingly Normal Day

I woke up the next day well-rested and excited to see what the loot I got really is.

I waited less than a minute before getting out of my bed, and I hurried to get to where I could look at the items in peace.

Once I found a relatively secluded place, I immediately pulled out the first item on my list of loot: the Worm Scarf.

It was an interesting-looking item that looked similar to the worm in terms of looks, just with fewer eyes and teeth. It also looked like a scarf.

I immediately looked at the stats of the scarf.

[Worm Scarf

Reduces all damage taken by 17%]

I was stunned by the simple description of the item, as well as the extremely useful ability that came with wearing it.

'Wow. That is a really good scarf.'

{Indeed it is. It is also one of the extremely few damage reduction items, so it is also as rare as it looks.}

'Well that's good to know.'

I wore the scarf and moved onto the next item: the Eater's Bone

[Eater's Bone

Summons a baby eater of souls to follow you.]

While this item did not seem very appealing to me, it was better than getting nothing from the Eater's body.

'I'm just going to forget about this item for the near future.'

{We can help with that if you want.}

I responded to the Gods with a serious voice, since I wanted nothing messing with my mind.

'No. No screwing with my mind.'

The Gods seemed to whine at how flat my denial was.

{Fiiiine. Have it your way.}

I ignored how the annoying response of the Gods in favor of looking at the rest of the loot I had obtained.

I wasn't interested in the useless mask, so I moved onto the shadow scales and demonite ore.

While their item descriptions weren't anything interesting, they were materials that I needed to progress.

'Hey Gods, what can I make with this stuff?'

{You can only make bricks and bars out of the demonite, but those bars are used for crafting things with the shadow scales. One such item would be the silencing sheath, which increases your maximum stealth while also increasing your stealth recovery speed.}

'Sounds pretty useful to me. What do I need to make it?'

{A crafting bench that you are completely unable to obtain at the moment.}

'Well you should've told me that before you gave me the hope of obtaining it now. Now I just fell disappointed.'

{We tend to do that.}

'What? Give false hope or disappoint people?'

{Yes.}

'You suck at being a god.'

{We feel that were rather successful in our creations though.}

'Well, you suck at everything besides creation.'

{We can accept that insult, but we will throw one back. You suck at anything related to planning.}

'I already know that, and I have no plans to fix it any time soon. You really do suck at everything besides creation, huh?'

{We can be very versatile if we want.}

'I'm just going to keep doubting you. We might as well keep the 'audience' entertained for the rest of the day, so our short 'insult competition' might be slightly less boring than other things.'

The Gods started to show some very fake confusion, which I could easily tell due to their tone of voice.

{What audience?}

'We both know that you like to invade privacy, and we both know that you have no moral boundaries when it comes to things like personal space.'

{We have the right to remain silent?}

'There is no court of law here.'

{Good point.}

'Can I just get back to making more stuff?'

{Yes.}

I decided to move on from our conversation and focus on what to do with my new materials.

'If I made armor out of the scales and ore, would it be better than what I currently have?'

{Your current armor is made for stealth, while the shadow armor is made for melee fighting. It is your choice for which specialization you choose.}

I was seriously contemplating which armor, and thinking about the pros and cons before making a choice.

It only took me a minute to think of my answer.

'I'll use the shadow armor for now. I can always switch back to victide later.'

And so I went to the furnace and made all of the demonite ore into ingots before proceeding to the anvil to make the armor.

After I had crafted the whole set, I still had enough ingots and scales left over to craft a new set of tools.

These are the descriptions of the items:

[Shadow Helmet

Defense: 6

7% increased melee speed]

[Shadow Scalemail

Defense: 7

7% increased melee speed]

[Shadow Greaves

Defense: 6

7% increased melee speed]

[Set Bonus: 15% increase in movement speed]

[Nightmare Pickaxe

9 Melee Damage

Very Weak knockback

Critical chance: 4%

Very Fast use time

Tool speed: 15

Able to mine Hellstone]

[Light's Bane

17 Melee damage

Average knockback

Critical chance 4%

Very Fast use time]

I was surprised to see how good the shadow armor was in terms of defense. It was a definite upgrade from victide, and it was also melee specialized, something I was rather skilled at.

I looked at the tools I had made as well, spending a short time looking for anything of interest.

And then I saw the small line of text at the bottom of the Nightmare Pickaxe's description:

[Able to mine Hellstone]

'Oh. Oh no.'

{Well, that journey is in the future, so don't worry about visiting Hell anytime soon.}

'God I hate anything to do with that hellscape. At least I have the choice to go there or not.'

{Well going to hell is inevitable, but you have a while before that.}

I continued conversing with the Gods while still contemplating the fact that I will have to go to hell in the future.

I looked out into the horizon, looking at the large falling asteroid in the sky.

I refocused on what the gods were saying for a second before realizing something: there is a large falling asteroid.

"Wait what."

And then there was a loud explosion in the distance.

The Gods only said one thing:

{A meteorite has landed.}

'Godsdamnit.'

I had no idea what to write for this chapter so I just went with the flow.

I hope you enjoy this chapter!
