His Affection

*FLASHBACK CONTINUES*

Despite the crackling sounds of laughter, the low murmurs of people chatting, and the sounds of her own breath tackling her senses, all her mind could focus on was the word which her Lord has uttered just now. But what bothered her more was the confidence they were laced with.

Why did he sound like he was given another chance to redeem himself? More specifically, he sounded like she was given another chance. Another chance to claim what she had lost back then.

"What do you mean?" She couldn't stop the question rolling down her tongue. Her mind was too lost in the haziness to solve the riddle of his words to realize the way she was boldly asking for answers from her King. "What do you mean by your words?" She demanded.

"Your mind is going in the right direction, my child. We are given another chance to fix this. You have another chance to get what you have been craving for all those years, his affection." The man mumbled in a soft tone and answered her.

"Explain!" She exclaimed. Though her voice was low, equivalent to an incoherent whisper, but it was still as demanding as earlier

"I know that I owe you answers for a lot of things now, and i will give you those answers and provide you an explanation, but not here." He muttered under his breath before he suggested leaving the hall. "Let's go to a less crowded place."

He didn't want his people to eavesdrop on their conversation, especially when he knew in which way it was heading. But he also knew that it was time to have the conversation with the lady because it was time that he put her to some good use.

"What is it that you want to talk to me about?" She questioned him. The way he was acting so secretive was bugging her mind. She didn't know whether or not she should follow her instincts which were telling her to steer clear of the matter or secret the Lord was referring to.

"You will know everything if you just follow me." He spoke up as he lifted his hands off her shoulders. "Trust me." Saying these words, he began to walk down the steps which led him off the raised portion which was reserved for his throne like chair.

Without looking back for even once to make sure that the lady was following him or not, he continued to head towards the large green, translucent doors on the side of the wide hall. He was sure that his unsaid words were enough to pique the lady's interest, and that they would be enough to make her follow him.

Staring at his broad back from the distance, she stood rooted to her spot as her mind struggled to make a choice. She knew she would not be forced to hear anything she didn't want to. But the way he sounded was something she wanted to hear.

She wanted to know more about the matter because to her, it sounded like it had something to do with Aden, her deceased fiance. And if it had the slightest of concern with him, then she would definitely want to hear what her King had to say.

Clenching the fabric of her pale golden gown in her fists, she mumbled to herself. "Let's do this for him, Dana." She exhaled out a long breath to clear her mind of the uncertainties as she decided to follow the man.

With her head held high, like the proud woman which she was, she followed his tracks and walked towards the same door she saw him walking towards earlier. The moment she crossed the door, she saw him waiting for her on the other side with his back resting against the wall next to the door.

"I knew you love my son too much to not come with me, and I assure you that you won't be disappointed by what I am about to tell you, my dear." He spoke up as he gave her a faint smile. Not waiting for her reply, he began to walk and head towards his private chambers.

Seeing that she wasn't given any other choice, she began to follow him while making sure there was some distance between them. After all, he was her Supreme Lord. Even though she was raised by the caretakers provided by the King himself and had spent half of her life in the Crystal Palace, it won't shorten the gap between them. She was given no choice but to respect it, and she had no problem in doing so.

"So, what was it that you needed to talk to me, your Highness?" She spoke up and asked him once they were in the confinements of his private chamber.

"Have a seat first? For what I am about to discuss you with now, may come as a shock to you. And I don't want my daughter-in-law to lose her footing and fall on the floor." He pointed his hand towards the sofa chair which was settled next to a fireplace which had no wooden logs in it.

Why would angels need some wood chunks to light a fireplace when they could use their powers?

Nodding her head at his words, she settled down in the chair. As soon as she was comfortably seated, the dark fireplace suddenly lit up and the cackling sound of burning flames could be heard. She shifted her gaze to the pale orange and yellow dancing flames in confusion as she didn't see the Lord using any spell.

"You are right, I didn't use any spell. I mean not at the moment. But it already had a spell cast on it. Every time someone sits on the sofa you are sitting in, it senses their emotional state and burns the way it thinks the person needs it. The colors of the burning flames vary depending on what they are providing, warmth or cold." He took a pause and walked to sit on the other chair in the room which was opposite to the sofa.

"For example, the orange and yellow flames represent warmth." He continued as he gave her a sad smile. "It was a spell put by my wife way before she died."
