Chapter 9

Xyris P.O.V.

I can't help myself but look around the cafe as Brandon leads me to the table he reserves for us.

Brandon, as a gentleman he was, pulled a seat for me and make sure I am comfortable before he takes the seat in opposite side of the table.

I tried my best to have a normal conversation with him while trying to ignore the feeling of being watch from a distance. We are in the middle of the meal nang hindi sinasadyang dumako ang tingin ko sa ginintuang sinulid sa kamay ko ng makaramdam ako ng kakaibang kirot mula roon. From my hand, my eyes followed it to the man where the other end of the thread is connected.

Five tables away from us is where my mate is seated. He seems oblivious of my presence and I cannot help but envy him. How can he not feel our bonds when I can feel the thread aching for his touch everytime he is near? Seeing him this close yet so far made me realize how we belong to a different world. It made me question the reason why destiny decided to pair us up when we are completely the polar opposite of each other.

I turn my attention back to Brandon and the food in front of us. "Are you okay Xyris?" Nagaalalang tanong nito.

I let out a smile at his question. "Yeah, sure I am. Why?" Sagot ko rito. I notice that he is giving me a weird look and that's making me and my dryad edgy. I wonder if he already remember anything from that night.

"You seems so, erghh not you since this morning." Wika nito na nagpakunot sa noo ko.

"What do you mean not me?" He is observant, I give him that. He is a werewolf though, I'm pretty sure he can smell my fear even if I am not showing it.

"Well, I am actually concerned. You were genuinely happy with me in the past few days but today you seems a bit different. You know you can tell me everything Xyris. We maybe just met few days ago but you can trust me." He encourage. I let out a smile at his sincerity, this time a genuine one.

"I know I can trust you but I don't think you should trust me." Wika ko. "I'll be leaving first thing tomorrow and it's such a shame knowing how our friendship started with a lie." Mapait kong dugtong. He is really a friend for keep.

"It is you, right?" Mula sa pagkain ay nagangat ako ng tingin rito. My eyes is full of question of what he mean by his words.

"The woman who saved me and my wolf that night is you. I don't know how did you do it but I just know it's you." Mahinang wika nito.

Napalunok ko. I did not dare to ask how did he know or even deny it. What's the point of denying it anyway, I expected that sooner or later he will get his memory back. I just never expect it to be this soon.

Litong napaiwas ako ng tingin rito. I don't know what to say, I am about to stand up when he held my arms making me look at him once again. Few curious eyes turns to look at us including the eyes of my mate and his group.

Mula kay Brandon ay nalipat ang tingin ko sa kamay nito nakahawak sa braso ko.

"I need to go to the washroom." Mahinang wika ko. Attempting to save us from the questioning look of the people around. I can feel my mates curious eyes from the distance.

Tila naintindihan naman ni Brandon ang nais kong iparating. Tumango ito at saka binatawan ako.

I am about to turn around to walk towards the washroom when I feel a sudden and sharp force passed to my left cheeks. I halted.

I remained frozen on my spot upon feeling a strong gush of wind pass inches from my face. Nanlaki ang mata ko ng marinig ang pagkabasag ng salamin mula sa kanang bahagi cafe. The wind seems sharp that I can feel a tingling sensation on my skin, an indication that I got a small cut from it. I can feel the people around her including her mate became alert at the attack while some tourist is starting to panic.

Kuyom ang kamaong napalingon ako sa basag na bintana ng café. I can see a dark huge shadow beyond the lush trees of the forest. Alpha Kaige who doesn't care a bit about my presence a while ago stands up from his seat and is now walking towards our direction.

"What the fuck was that?" Brandon exclaimed as he seems to be the first one who manage recover from the shock. My eyes turn to him as I wipe the blood on my cheek.

In the corner of my eyes I saw one of the waiter walk towards the dagger that was now buried deep in the wooden wall of the café. The shot was never meant to kill me, it was meant to give a warning, a message that only signifies one thing to me and my dryad, danger.

"Rogues…" The waiter whispered but it is enough to hear by all werewolves in the room. Suddenly, the air inside the cozy café went stiff and suffocating.

I can't help but notice Alpha Kaige's eyes darken in anger upon hearing his warrior's word.

A rogue manage to enter his territory without them noticing it, he has the best warriors incomparable to any wolf packs and he is sure that any rogue will hesitate to enter his island but this rogue even dared to made an attack to a human in his presence. The warrior walks towards the Alpha and handed him the paper that was tied at the end of the dagger.

The alpha let out a low growl upon reading the message, suddenly his dark eyes landed to the woman who is standing still while looking at him, me.

Our eyes met and I'm pretty sure that he can see and feel my fear. His hand is close in tight fist. I know the message was meant for me and whatever is written in that piece of paper is definitely not a good news for her.

Judging from the murderous of the Alpha I can already tell that he knows that am in this island for a reason, and that reason is definitely far from a relaxing vacation.

"What was that for?" From me, the Alpha's eyes turns to Annalise. She looks as confuse while on the other hand I am beyond scared. I am terrified. The thought of me leaving this island and starts running around again to escape from the invisible claws that's catching up fast to me is making me shakes in fear.

I can feel Kaige's warriors are already spread throughout the forest to look for the culprit. My dryad can feel the presence of Duskfall warriors roaming around near the cafe. That somehow made me feel secure a bit. My tears is wanting to escape my eyes at the moment but I force myself to keep my cool. The combination of anxiety and tremors is eating me from the inside in a dangerous manner but I cannot allow it to show. Not in front of my mate.

I know that Kaige will not allow me to leave without questioning what really happened just now. Maybe for me this is nothing but an unfortunate event but for my mate, it is an opportunity to finally force me to answer his questions.

I notice that Brandon stands up from his seat and close the door of the café after few humans and warriors left the place.

Once the door closes, Alpha Kaige close his gap with me. Right there and then all I wanted to do is runaway far from this place and from the curious looks of the people around me. Napalunok ako ng huminto si Kaige sa harap ko. He put the paper in the table for me to read. As if on cue, my eyes went down to the crumpled paper on the table. I hold my breath upon reading the words that is written on it. Kumuyom ang kamao ko sa galit. It was written in a familiar handwriting that never fails to instil fear in me. I'm fucked!

'Do you think hiding under your mate's wings will stop me? Hide and seek is over, I'll catch you my golden butterfly.'
