The Couple Who Were Not Meant To Be (1)

*Year 1722*

Her attention was on the pitter patter of the rain. The weather was stormy as the clouds loomed dangerously above them. The man driving the carriage was facing much difficulty in the weather. The roads were slippery and rough. The stone pathways were dangerous especially during the rain but the woman had paid him an exorbitant amount of money to take her to the hills. 

The woman was strange. She was old, probably in her eighties or nineties and yet was surprisingly energetic. The carriage was bumping up and down and yet she did not complain of any discomfort. The coachman was surprised that the old woman had so much money. She was dressed in quite ordinary red clothes and with the beads around her neck, he suspected she was a shaman.

"Grandma, how much further?" the coachman asked. "The road ahead is very rocky! It'll be impossible to cross in this weather."

"Not far," the old woman replied. "Just around the village."
