Scene and Spells

The low vibration of the vehicle driving over the cobblestone road is making me me nauseous. Looking down at my feet to calm my stomach, I notice patches of now dried up blood. I hold my hand over them in hopes to relieve a bit of their pain. In doing so my nausea subsided.

Looking out of the window I see lights blur as they come in and out of my line of sight. Even being dark this city is well lit, I can see the buildings in the distance as long as I follow them with my eyes so they don't pass me by. Some are tall, some are short. Most of them are made of stone and brick, they are connecting each other to the building opposite. Like a never ending chain of them, until a road turns down them to cut the uniform shape.

Every now and then another car will pass us going the other way. Most of them have different shapes but for the most part they look the same. A longer front end and shorter back. The tires are thin but the wheel is big with a thick piece of metal protruding from the body to cover the front them.

Sometimes I'll see another person as well, walking beside the road in a spot meant for them. I have seen one elf on a sign of a building, but none walking down the road.

The man who put me in his car is sitting opposite of his driver, who I assume is from the army just like the Major and Lieutenant. He is wearing the same uniform as them but I remember another person calling him Colonel. He reminds me of the Lieutenant, he is muscular with slick black hair, he is clearly younger than the Lieutenant but commands a similar presence.

The car starts to hum to stop, and the Colonel looked back at me and spoke.

"We're here, now I'm gonna open your door and get you out, I don't want any funny business ya hear?" He said with a straight tone as he stepped out and opened my door.

He was not looking for a response I guess, he opened my door and grabbed me by the arm as I stepped out on the cold concrete.

"My feet still have glass in them so can we take it slow?" I said as I made sure the pain was shown on my face.

"No worries pal, we will get ya cleaned up once we get you processed." he said as he put my arm around his neck as to brace me.

As we started walking another man walked up beside us and spoke to the Colonel.

"Sir, do you think it's wise to be treating this man with such generosity, we clearly found him at the scene of a murder." the man said with a worried tone.

The man was wearing the same uniform as the Colonel but looked completely different. His short, shaggy brown hair caught my eye first. He looked flimsy, if the wind would blow, it would probably blow him over.

"Relax Yeral, you calmed his mind so I ain't worried, besides, he's injured!" he said, insinuating even though I was injured, he believed in his comrades abilities.

"That spell should of worn off by now sir." Yeral said scoffing and rolling his eyes.

The Colonel's eyes grew wide and he looked right at me.

"Say- you're alright ain't ya pal? You got no thoughts of harm, do ya?" he said trying to keep his tone powerful but I could hear the worried gulp after he finished speaking.

Letting out a sigh myself I decide to give this oaf some relief.

"Relax, I never planned to hurt anyone in the first place." I said.

"There ya go Yeral, see! Oh- and, I need you to contact Lieutenant Dormen of the Second Brigade and let him know what happened. Tell him we have- um-" The Colonel said falling apart at the end not realizing he never asked me for my name.

"What is your name pal," he said with a wide smile on his face.

I could understand why Yeral acted the way he did now.

"It's Seven." I said letting out a slight sigh.

"Seven, tell him we have Seven in custody." He said looking at Yeral.

"Right away sir." he said moving his fist to his chest.

Looking at the building it was smaller than I expected probably about half the size of the hospital, with only one floor. The shrubs around the front door were groomed well, there was a sign above the door that read "Fourth Magic Brigade HQ."

Stepping into the building the interior was normal looking, light brown walls with clocks and pictures attached. There were chairs and tables placed along them. In the center is a circular desk with papers stacked all around it, behind it were metal double doors.

Stepping through the big double doors we were actually inside now. I could tell in an instant as I started to feel a bit nervous, this place was a prison.

As we walked past a few cells I noticed there wasn't anyone in them. To my relief we walked passed them all. We came to a white room similar to the hospital I was at.

"This is the infirmary." he said as he helped me sit on one of the beds.

"Our doctor does not come in for a few more hours so unfortunately I gotta do it, now I ain't ever been a healer, but I do know a few spells." He said jokingly as he hovered his hands over my feet.

"You are going to heal me with magic as well?" I said, clearly intrigued.

"You betcha, what good would I be as a Colonel if I didn't know a few measly healing spells." he said as he puffed his chest out at the sound of his own compliment.

"Now you just be still," he said as his tone became more serious. "Divine light, head my call and let my mana be a catalyst. Middle cure wounds." he said as his hands started to glow bright white.

The light started to envelop my body and I could feel the pain go away and the glass being forcefully removed from my body, as the light started to dissipate I can see my wounds close. Just as I was about to speak and thank the Colonel he spoke again.

"There we go, all healed. And, I'm sorry for this." he said and with a swift motion he put a piece of metal on me that connected my foot to the bed.

Instantly I felt tired like the next thing I wanted to do was go to sleep. My energy is stagnating like I'm being tied down with massive weight, but there is no pressure.

"Your probably wonderin' what's happening to you. I just put magic cuffs on your foot. They are a magic item that drains a set amount of energy from whoever it's on. Don't you worry though, once they get taken off they return your energy to ya. It's just a precaution. We did find you at the scene of a murder after all." he said with a serious tone.

"My team has probably finished canvasing the area about now, so once they are back I'm gonna be back to question you. The only reason I didn't throw you in a cell is because you said you knew Lieutenant Dormen. Out of respect for that, I'll let you lay here until I get the information I need." he said as he walked out of the room shutting the door behind him.

This is just fantastic, I thought. I'm about tired of being tied down all the time.
