217. Sun Jian Go Meet Lie Fan

He is an old general aged around 40 years old, known for his boldness and charisma in Yi Province where even in the original history when Liu Bei invaded Liu Zhang, Yan Yan defended Bazhou from Zhang Fei's attack and refused to surrender.

He and Huang Zhong can be said to be of the same generation, and have the same personality of boldness and spirit unlike an old man but a young man in their spring, ready to face the whole world.

In the original history, his boldness was what allowed him to survive his beheading that was ordered by Zhang Fei because he was still so bold even in the face of death, gaining Zhang Fei's respect and admiration entertaining him as an honored guest.

Yan Yan who can be said to be at his pinnacle right now, takes on King Duosi showing his boldness and bravery, even though he loses in terms of the mount where a horse takes on an elephant.

But there's one advantage that Yan Yan's horse is much better than King Duosi's elephant, and that is the handling of the mount. Yan Yan can instruct his horse much better, and faster compared to King Duosi who instructs his elephant.

No matter how agile an elephant is, in terms of speed and agility a horse is much better than an elephant whose size is much bigger than a horse, something that Yan Yan takes advantage of.

King Duosi who saw that Yan Yan outmaneuvered him in terms of speed and agility, become to grew frustrated and instructed his elephant to use its tusk or trunk to hit Yan Yan or his horse.

This attempt almost succeeded in knocking Yan Yan off his horse, but Yan Yan with his strength managed to cut off the trunk using his glaive, showing his strength even then he only cut a small part of the trunk, showing the toughness of the elephant's skin and muscle.

The elephant even though it was already trained by King Duosi to become a war elephant, its pain resistance wasn't that good and the training wasn't as good as the Indian War Elephant training method.

King Duosi's elephant let out a loud roar and shook his body in pain, while his trunk waved around with blood coming out of it. King Duosi who was sitting on top of the elephant, was taken off guard by the sudden frantic movement and the fall from the elephant's back.

Yan Yan seeing this opportunity, rode his horse toward King Duosi and prepared his glaive to strike the defenseless King Duosi, when he was very close to King Duosi, suddenly a figure stopped stepping in front of King Duosi.

It was King Mulu who raised his big spiked clubs to block Yan Yan's glaive, Yan Yan was taken by surprise and couldn't retract his glaive so it hit King Mulu's Big Spiked club, making King Mulu fall due to the strong impact.

Yan Yan: "Humph you dare to take the blow of this old man?! Now look what happened to you, better surrender and serve My Lord! Even though you're weak I can see that the two of you have some good strength!"

King Mulu: "Old Man shut your mouth! Do you think we will surrender to you?! In your dreams! We will protect our home until our last breath!"

King Duosi : *cough* What Mulu *cough* said is true, we would never surrender! I acknowledge that I underestimated you, old man, now why don't you take on the two of us huh?!"

Yan Yan: "Haha the two of you combined can't defeat me, but alright I gave you two a chance come take my attack!"

King Mulu and King Duosi worked together to take on Yan Yan, who received the two of them easily taking them head-on, not knowing that this was a ploy from King Mulu who had brought his tigers along with him.

Yan Yan is distracted by both King Mulu and King Duosi and doesn't realize that some of the shouts let out by King Mulu were some sort of command for his tigers who lurked in the forest.

Yan Yan realized that there was some sort of presence behind him, and when he realized that it was a tiger he was too late, thinking that it was his end he decided to accept it and vowed to bring King Duosi and King Mulu alongside him.

The tiger that was under King Mulu's command let out a loud roar, and when it was close to Yan Yan suddenly a figure riding a horse came from the forest and raised his spear penetrating the tiger's head precisely on its brain, penetrating the thick skull easily.

Yan Yan sees the figure who helped him become ecstatic and grateful, the figure who helped him was Zhang Ren the strongest general in Yi Province and the loyal general of Liu Yan and Liu Zhang, whereas, in the original history, he doesn't surrender to Liu Bei.

Zhang Ren's presence helped reduce the burden Yan Yan faced, King Mulu and King Duosi alongside Ahui'Nan who later came to support them saw that they couldn't take on the two of them, so they began to retreat fearing for their lives.

Yan Yan and Zhang Ren don't pursue them, they decide to wait for the last group of the army and check the wounds of the soldiers who managed to survive the swamps, especially Yan Yan's army who entered as the first group which receive the biggest blow.

The battle between Liu Yan and the Nanman Tribe Alliance has just begun and this is only the prologue to their long war, far in Yuzhang Sun Jian's capital Sun Jian now holds a council meeting with his retainers.

Since the establishment of the alliance between the Sun Clan and the Lie Clan, Sun Jian has begun the preparation of his army and collected supplies for the battle against Liu Yao to expand his domain.

Sun Ce and Zhou Yu also participated in this meeting, not because of Sun Jian but due to their merit in helping Huan Jie establish the alliance with Lie Fan but also defeating Liu Yao's Navy in the battle for Yuzhang previously.

Sun Jian: "Everyone I called all of you here today to discuss our next move, after securing our alliance with Lie Fan I want to know the readiness of my army and the supplies needed."

Huan Jie: "My Lord our supplies have been prepared well, our harvest this year is very good, and combined with our fishermen's yield increase we are ready to move any time."

Han Dang: "Our army is also ready My Lord, we have managed to raise the number of our men to 80,000 and our navy has an increase of 10 ships and 1,000 marines."

Sun Jian: "That's good, continue to prepare all of it, I want it to be perfect when we attack Liu Yao so we can show it to Lie Fan then we will not be a burden for him!"

Sun Ce: "Father, I'm sure that Brother Lie Fan doesn't think of our Sun Clan as a burden because he has seen for himself the power of the Tiger of Jiangdong and his army with his own eyes!"

Sun Jian: "Haha Bofu you are truly a perfect image of me when I was young, somewhat naive which was a good thing to have! Of course, Lie Fan will not think like that, but his advisors and generals will not think the same as him."

Zhou Yu: "I agree with My Lord, I can see with my own eyes that Lord Lie Fan respected and admired My Lord every time he said your name, but that can't be guaranteed as Lord Lie Fan also values the opinions of his retainers."

Sun Jian: "What Gonglu said is true, I have seen that with my own eyes, and that's one of the reasons admire him, he was just a young blood back then but he can balance between following his heart and listening to the advice of his retainers."

Sun Jian smiles when he says that, and then he tells Sun Ce to make Lie Fan his role model when he succeeds him in the future because Sun Jian can see that Lie Fan is what a lord should be.

Sun Ce doesn't agree with Sun Jian and tells him that he will always be his role model. Huan Jie and Zhou Yu at the side feel what Sun Jian said makes sense while Han Dang, Cheng Pu, and Huang Gai agree with Sun Ce.

Sun Jian waved his hand to stop his generals from making any more trouble, he knew the tempers of his veteran generals well, and after discussing some more about the army and supplies Sun Jian remembered something.

He asked about Zhang Zhao and Zhang Hong who were influential figures in Jiangding, known for their mind and oratory skills. Huan Jie shakes his head and tells him that they haven't responded to the letters that he sent on Sun Jian's behalf.

Sun Jian sighed knowing that his prestige and stature weren't enough to make these two figures take notice of him, and then he felt maybe he could ask Lie Fan for some advice on how to become a lord.

He then said to his council, that he decided to visit Lie Fan in Xiapi, to discuss their alliance and also the matter of splitting Yang Province, the sudden news caught everyone off guard.

Huan Jie and Han Dang objected to Sun Jian's sudden decision to visit Lie Fan, as they felt that it was too risky with how Liu Yao's navy was roaming the Yangtze River and Liu Biao's navy lurking in the shadows behind them.

Sun Jian vetoed their objection, saying that his decision was final and no one could stop him, Sun Ce who saw this knew that Huan Jie and Han Dang couldn't change their minds knowing the temper of his father.

So he proposed that he and Zhou Yu accompany Sun Jian, alongside Cheng Pu and some of the finest soldiers and marines under the Sun Clan.

Sun Ce's words gave an opening for Huan Jie and Han Dang to compromise with Sun Jian's decision, so they reluctantly agreed with his decision. A few days passed by, and Sun Jian and Sun Ce alongside Zhou Yu and Cheng Pu boarded the ship that had been prepared to sail toward Guangling.
