Hear Me Out

A few days had passed since Feng Zhengyi and Kang Mu's conversation and the house had been quiet since. This was good, and Mo Ruyi knew this, however, she hadn't seen her son in what felt like decades but since she had mostly refused to leave the house unless Feng Zhengyi did, the woman did not let out a small bit of complaint.

This was for her son after all. For his safety, for his wife's safety and for their joint happiness. For this, Mo Ruyi was willing to let herself suffer for a bit. Even after Elder Kang had personally told her that Kang Jun would be leaving T City soon.

It pained her that her son hadn't told she or Kang Mu. But at the same time, she understood. They were living with Feng Zhengyi and if the plans of their leaving were revealed, Feng Zhengyi would surely bring it up in court and cause a ruckus... So Mo Ruyi kept her mouth shut, and continued to act as she always did.

One morning, however, Feng Zhengyi was nowhere to be found, which was strange because Mo Ruyi was the kind of woman who woke up at 5 am to do morning stretches and light exercise to keep her slim figure.

At around 10 o'clock, 3 hours past the time Feng Zhengyi usually woke up, Looking around, Mo Ruyi contemplated waking Kang Mu up but knowing that the man would probably not know, instead, Mo Ruyi asked one of the servants who usually tended to her before and after her morning routine.

Elegantly, Mo Ruyi made her way to the girl, not cloaking her presence at all, so the woman didn't receive a scare.

Once she was close, the servant turned around almost instinctively.

The female servant smiled at Mo Ruyi and greeted her properly, as all of them did.

"Where did my mother in law go?" Mo Ruyi asked calmly, without any worry or insinuation in her tone.

"She left early this morning..." the woman said calmly, and then, almost as if she was about to gossip, the woman went closer to Mo Ruyi and then she began to whisper, "I don't think Madame Feng expected me to be awake. She snuck out of the house rather quietly."

Hearing this, Mo Ruyi frowned but she did not participate in the gossip. She just listened well as the girl continued to speak.

"If you're curious, I can tell you the car she left it. It wasn't a taxi, someone she knows seemed to have picked her up..." the girl said quietly.

"That would be great. Do you remember the licence plate?" No Ruyi asked.

"Slightly." The girl said as she put her hand in front of her lip, trying her best to concentrate.

Hearing this, Mo Ruyi nodded. "Just tell me what you remember."

Mo Ruyi was being obviously curious. It was not how she was usually and she herself knew that she was acting strange however she believed it was fine.

Most of the people working in the house didn't like Feng Zhengyi. Mo Ruyi knew this, but at the same time, because they were afraid of her, most of them didn't go against her either but a few servants, didn't care if they went against Feng Zhengyi since Kang Mu and Mo Ruyi would never allow anything truly bad to happen to them.

After hearing all that the woman had to say, Mo Ruyi contemplated whether to go see Kang Jun's place but rather than doing that, she thought she would wait and see when Feng Zhengyi would come back home.

She waited and waited but by the time it was the afternoon, Mo Ruyi frowned hard.

It was only when she heard footsteps approaching the place where she was seated that Mo Ruyi's restlessness began to disappear.

But image her shock when the figure who caused the footsteps appeared, and Mo Ruyi saw a young skinny woman with a slightly sullen expression.

It was Qiao Lan.

Qiao Lan, due to Kang Mu's way of being, was free to come to their home whenever she wanted. Mostly after what had happened with her grandfather and Kang Jun, the man allowed her free range.

She was family after all.

"Hello... is a grandmother in law here?" Qiao Lan asked curiously.

Mo Ruyi frowned slightly.

"No." Mo Ruyi said coldly. "She left early in the morning. Did you have a meeting with her? I can tell Mu to tell her you came by—"

"No!" Qiao Lan screamed slightly.

Hearing this, Mo Ruyi flinched. She had never seen Qiao Lan in such a state. Usually, Qiao Lan pretended to be in complete control. Like a perfect lady. But now, she demonstrated erratic old quirks reminiscent of when she was chasing Kang Zhi like a lovesick puppy.

Mo Ruyi was going to probe the woman heavily. Mo Ruyi knew that Feng Zhengyi was planning something but did this involve Qiao Lan?

It involved Rong Yue Wan, so Qiao Lan's involvement wouldn't be a shocker.

However, as Mo Ruyi was questioning Qiao Lan's role in all of this, never once did it cross her mind that Qiao Lan was actually on her side!

In fact, due to the fact that Qiao Lan felt guilty after not telling Kang Jun that it was Feng Zhengyi and Rong Yue Wan planning against Lu AnLing; Qiao Lan had planned on working hard in order to do what was needed, including laying herself bare to possible consequences.

Realizing she was acting a bit awkwardly, Qiao Lan took a deep breath.

Qiao Lan had done some thinking... and In the end, she had decided that even if Rong Yue Wan and Feng Zhengyi managed to blame the whole situation on her grandfather and Kang Jun happened to kill him, Qiao Lan would feel bad but her grandfather would deserve it...

He killed Kang Zhi!

Her throat burned with this secret. She wanted to tell someone, anyone, but she feared what would happen to her.

Qiao Lan never had much family. Other than her mother and her grandfather, the Kang's were her surrogate family. They always surrounded her and she was always happy to be with them. But with what her grandfather had done, they would never forgive him and in addition, her...

And she couldn't blame them, either.

Qiao Lan had always considered herself a victim of circumstance. Her father left, her mother got sick, her husband died...

Due to all she experienced she took it out on others and craved hedonistic pleasures but none of that made her feel better.

For a small while, Qiao Lan's head was down. Seeing this, Mo Ruyi felt strange. She didn't know what to say or do, so she just waited until Qiao Lan spoke politely,

"Mother in law... will you hear me out...?" Qaio Lan said.

Qiao Lan is finally on her way to becoming a proper human being with an actual soul though she still selfishly thinks of her own feelings. In her life, the hierarchy of importance is Kang Zhi first, her family second and then everyone else (as in trash to her).

Lots of you have been asking if I'm feeling better/healthier, and my answer to that is yes and no. I'm still a bit sick (mostly just congestion and fatigue) but It's bearable now.
