IV needle attached to his arm, circulating glucose solution that drip one by one from infusing tube. Beeping sound can be heard from the monitor, meaning his heart still beating. The eyes of the old man closed tight only a faint panting sound released from his mouth. the only guard who stationed there look bored, until he heard knocking sound in the door and his colleague come in.
"How is he?" asked the man who just came.
"Still the same, Jack. Nothing changed, sleeping all day like the dead" said the guard to his colleague whose name was Jack.
"Help me check him first Bob, then you can leave here" ask Jack to the first guard whose name was Bob.
Both guards come to the old man and checking the equipment. After filling the report, Jack sits in the chair that used by Bob before.
"Bob, how long he had been here?"
"In this medical ward or in this prison?"
"Both of them"
"Well, he had been in this ward for six months after he fell and lost consciousness in the bathroom. He's been in this prison for more than ten years I guess. That's before I get transferred here. You just transferred here for 3 months, no wonder you don't know"
"He serves for life sentence?"
"You don't know him? He quite notorious at his time thou. His criminal records if putting one by one on the paper can be as thick as bible you know. His nickname is the Ruthless Maxwell"
"I think I've heard that name. Is he that serial killer that is the most wanted person in five states?"
"Yup, that's him and that's not his only crimes"
"I wonder why he did not get executed"
"His lawyer pleads with insanity things, make the sentence reduces from death penalty to life sentences. Man, I wish they just shot him at that time. He's about to die yet still so bothersome"
"Maybe he knows he will go straight to hell. That's why he doesn't want to die yet"
"Hahahaha…you're right. Okay, I'll take my leave. You watch him carefully although I doubt he can escape for some hundreds yard from here"
"hahaha… okay, thanks for your help Bob"
Bob leave the ward and only Jack and the old man in bed remains there. Both guards did not aware there's a faint smirk in the mouth of the old man. They just don't know what that smirk means.
