Did we read the same fanfiction...? -Spoiler Warning- He initially joined the Yokai Faction because the transmigrator was new to the world and pretty weak (He hadn't yet trained his abilities by that point). So yes he did need some protection before he gained his own strength. He later continues to stay with Yasaka and the Yokai Faction because he took Yasaka and her daughter Kunou as his mates. I also assume by this point he's gained an attachment to the faction and thus has no reason to leave. On the matter of gaining power out of nowhere I have to mention that this is a Fanfiction and not a canon DxD. Most fanfictions are wish fulfillment thus if you want something believable you'd be better off reading something nonfiction. As mentioned throughout the fiction, the protagonist gained the OP Sword and Sacred Gear from his rebirth wish. His species was purified to pure Nekoshou. Using his innate racial ability he trained in Senjutsu arts. He stole the notes and research from the family that experimented on him, he used said knowledge to improve himself and do his own research and experiments. He went to school as an observer of the Devils as requested by the Shinto-Yokai faction. Everything you complained about was honestly explained... just read it lol.

The whole thing is it is not a wish-fulfillment format. He wished for two things and that was Yamato and and I forgot the other thing... Yet he messing with a system that good set up... He gains time manipulation and other powers out of nowhere...at least explain how to some degree.
