I came up with a whole naming system and even a map of the galaxy to coordinate with that naming system -- stars are named based off of where in the galaxy they are, according to a 2D circular map of the Milky Way. I may or may not publish this at some point but I really, really wanted to make it so I did XD In case you're curious, Elantris's designation is: "ra-Qvii-89-10-12-1" The format is this: [alphabetic character combination for zone in the galaxy] - [3D coordinates of the system within that zone in the form 00-00-00] - [planet number in system] To describe the way the [alphabetic character combination for zone in the galaxy] works: The Milky Way galaxy is divided into 26 equal radial pieces along a plane, each designated with a lowercase letter (a-z). Those pie pieces are split into habitable/uninhabitable zones; habitable = a, semi-habitable =y, uninhabitable = x. The third letter describes the distance from the center of the galaxy within that zone in capital letters (A-Z). The Roman Numeral designates which “pie slice” within the pie it lies within (there are 10, so i-x) To demonstrate: Star py-Tiv-01-65-10 “Fross” Star ra-Qvii-89-10-12 “Helai” Planet ra-Qvii-89-10-12-1, "Elantris"
