the only problem I see with that statement is pete clearly had to hear that from somewhere. as kids don't think of things like that on their own. as such, it's another factor of how hid life is being messed up by adults who aren't willing to hold their tongue about certain things around children

interesting development, some was completely expected, like the kidnapper being so thick headed that he already botched this beyond repair. though, I'm rather interested in his reason for taking Rika. he clearly knows who her family is, so it stands to reason that he wants something. yet, it isn't clear what. although I can’t help but wonder if Mark will be the one to get the call or if it'll be Rika's mother. if it's Mark, I'm sure Rika will prolly provoke him when he shows up. though one part that wasn't expected was how Emily and Damien were so far behind Rika's kidnapper that they're only finding out about it after Rika was drugged and tied up. not sure if that'll be a factor in things or not, though anyway, looking forward to the next chapter!

even if Damien and Emily weren't so upset, I wouldn't see the kidnapper surviving, unless it was on a life sentence on a feeding or ventilation tube
