An extremely powerful story of a young South African lady from her late high school days through three years of hardship in her marriage. Her early training prepared her for a life of humility before many women her age where taught, but through injustices- large and small, she came to realize that she was an "invisible woman". People saw in her only a reflection of their preconceived ideas of what her was, denied her individuality, and ultimately did not see her at all. This theme, which has implications far beyond the obvious racial parallel, is skillfully handled. The incidents of the story are wholly absorbing.
