You’d be surprised how realistic this is, illogical yes, however, when people don’t know you well they’ll draw their own conclusions and assumptions off of the small snippets they see of you and they will dislike and ostracize you for it.
I ended up dropping that novel due to one of the reveals that, in my opinion, made all of the achievements of the MC pretty much worthless. If you know you know.

It is literally hate speech, slurs represent oppressing the related party. The authors repeated usage of these words clearly means it's intentional. I can't believe I actually have to explain this. If you want to know more just search hate speech.

Honestly any kind of protagonist can be well liked if written well, several examples of this exist, although the reader's preference will also play a part as to whether they like it or not.
