If you are good and not liability, Organizations do make exceptions. It’s just that they didn’t find anyone for whom they are willing to make exceptions. The reason is because the players needs to be elite in both batting/ pitching. If he is good in either one then the team makes him to do only that. Shohei Otani is the only one in modern baseball to be selected as a 2 way player. Hopefully more players follow up in his footsteps as the incentives are huge like .75 billion $ something.

Well atleast in USA Amateur BB is different from NCAA. Yes Amateur league players don’t get payed but they all have players from all ages like 18+ ages. Some are ex college ball players, some are injured highschool players. So skill is varied from one end to another end in spectrum. NCAA players don’t get payed as well but they get stipends etc and their skill is equivalent to AAA players atleast.
