Now that I understand the relationship between the male main characters it a lot better. Ex fiancé is the adopted son of her husband though he is only six years older. Their father inserted his illegitimate son into the family by having his legitimate son adopt his half brother. Messy.

Ah, now the father-son relationship makes sense. Their dad’s a real price of work.

They really need to is “godfather”. It gets a bit mixed up using “dad” when he’s only six years older than her former fiancé.
