That's a good question. Irwin is on the spot and knows that he needs an immediate answer to his rapidly diminishing stamina, health, and magic reserves. Those consumables serves a specific purpose, in that it is known, thus, allowing him a bit of mental power and concentration to buy it from the store and that buying an artifact or mystical item mid-fight is stupid. He first needs to see the item if it fits him, if he can wielf or use it, and if it can help him as much as getting an extra boost on stamina, health, and magic reserves.
