My thought exactly, back then there was no statute of secrecy and the muggleborn wizards could've been the worst security risk the wizards had experienced. Real world events like Hiroshima and WW2 could've been a neat little talking point for inter muggle politics in the movies, as a reason they don't like the idea of muggleborn wizards.

I've always had my own theory that the hat puts you in the house with the things you pursue. A kid wants to be brave, seeks honor? Gryffindor. Wants to be smart, seeks knowledge? Ravenclaw. Seeks friends? Hufflepuff. Seeks power, influence? Slytherin.
