It was a very delicate and terrifying field of magic, but one that Harry didn't find the need to explore. The cost was high for every spell. Using blood magic wasn't something that should be casually done, and every spell had to be calculated so that its users wouldn't kill themselves. Vergo wasn't harmed after being bisected by Law, he died when the building he was in got blown up. Law used Room before slicing him. Whilst Devil Fruit powers can be resisted by Haki there have been cases of it being overwhelmed by sheer force, as shown in the Luffy V Hancock's sisters fight. There is also the belief that Law supplemented his attack by coating his sword with armament Haki, giving his slicing capabilities a power boost.

"despite intent being a major factor", did you miss this part of the comment? Whilst not as in-detail as your comment, it should at least have conveyed that I understood how important intent is for spell casting. Saying that, why did you respond with a comment explaining the intents needed for the Unforgivables?
This was because apparition worked based on the concept of spatial tunneling that involved creating a small tube of magic that flung the wizard from one spot to another based on the coordinates they set. Normally this process would take a period of time to make calculations but thanks to the nature of magic that wasn't necessary so long as the rules of apparition were followed. See magic as a whole had this funny property of remembering spells so that the next time they are used even if it is by a complete idiot they only need the words and wand movements to succeed if there is no intent in the spell.-
