It's because the author thought beating Bakugo after getting trained by Bang himself is a monumental achievement, and winning easily would make him too OP and like every "good" MC he needs to have a rough journey with ups and down(syndromes) to be interesting. Or he was majorly sandbagging it to make it dramatic.

Could've used that before the pin pull. But i guess taking Bakugos full load on his face is his way of showing a powerful statement .
