i suspect a high use of machine translation (MTL) with little proofreading to fix gender pronouns and other ones. when i have done some machine translation reading from other raw source of a Chinese novel, the gender flips are common and it seems the pronoun for things like mother and grandmother (as well as father/grandfather) are too similar and nuanced that the machine can't make it out correctly
that teacher QWR is so conceited and moronic as she completely disregards she helped loser LCW in the prior special exam for Professor He yet still believes LCW has greater abilities/skill than FZ? forgot she stole the key pt to answer the special exam question from FZ turning in her paper early? arrgggg
yep, it's even worse in other novels with 2 or 3 year olds having full dialogue conversations ... some 3 year olds may be building sentences but poorly, but a 2year old is just starting to potty train and no way is full sentence a concept they grasp in communicating (usually basic sentences picked up, like I want 'that' or I don't want to rather that able to carry full conversation). I don't care if author wants the kid to be near genius from birth or what. the only time i accept is narrative is if a full adult reborn into infancy so mentally they are capable but overcoming physical limits from young to growing up. Some authors don't seem full out ignorant of designing kid characters but vast majority on WN seem to depict young kids will unbelievable mentalities. heck, for research they could watch any of the multiple live stream or niche reality shows where they have little kids go buy soy sauce or first time going to school to grasp what an average baby can do or act like.
It’s a common MTL result I’ve encountered that my brain has learned to swap on WN restaurant for dining room anytime the setting is in a home. Not as tricky as trying to decipher between scars when it should be wounds based on setting context lol
No comment about the review, but, was there actually any market research to quantify if the WN audience preferred westernized characters names rather than ethnic or literary names more in line with culture background/inspiration which majority of works/stories hosted on WN are derives from Asian influences or references? This is different from living in a Western culture to adopt a English moniker for ease of use in daily life. This is also an intriguing aspect when I encounter different artistic licence taken for translation of graphic novels/comics or subtitles or audio dubbing of videos (both animated or live action). I am a first generation born in a Western culture but for WN content, and dependent on the story setting or design itself, I personally prefer the pinyin names of characters as flow to the chinese or asian type environment created. Of course, i do not fault an author who chooses to use Western names originally but I hope it’s either from necessity (such as not knowing/looking for asian names but creating asian type setting) or thoughtful choice for character design rather than some appeasement belief that reader/s prefer to see or ‘remeber’ western name(s) more easily. The WN app seems to have users from many different nations so this seems difficult to quantify unless a very vast survey of readers was taken, and even then will be impossible to please everyone. Most fans tend to prefer original character names even if it may not be from their own heritage (big example is how prolific content can cross borders). I imagine this may also be different when some actors or performers may adopt a localised name for different countries which their works may be released or promoted …
I begin to think the author meant sedatives which some people obtain illicitly to cope with emotional pain (not dissimilar to narcotic painkillers or opioids) as many antidepressants work on brain chemistry rather than sedate which would be more numbing while suffering trauma …. Just conjecture as I believe author once stated English is not her first language somewhere before
ok, attempted kidnap definitely too far as a crime but all these chinese-influenced WN constantly have wealthy schmucks paying to kidnap someone to abuse/rape/teach a lesson ...
