To be fair in most cultures white clothes represents purity or innocence on the other hand it's a pain in the neck keeping white clothing looking clean, while darker clothes tend to appear clean even when they get a little dirty.

Look at a book called "the magus era" it's been a few years since I read it, but it should have the story of the golden sun crow's in it.
