Tricking Mr. De La Rue
"They are here," Maya quickly whispered to Katlin, who nodded and took out her phone.
They had made arrangements with several members of both Nathaniel's people and her own.
She would excuse herself and take Gabriel with her to meet with whomever Adeline De La Rue brought with her.
"I'll come pick you up," Maya said excitedly. "How many are with you?"
"Three others," Adeline was being a little too secretive about who she had brought along, making Maya nervous.
"Do you mind if I ask who?"
"It'll be a surprise," Adeline laughed at the other end of the line.
Maya couldn't help but feel jealous of the older woman. Her tone carried so much authority and yet her tone was so gentle, motherly even.
"I hope it's not a bad surprise," Maya grimaced, unsure if that was the impression she wanted to leave with the woman who may someday be her mother-in-law.
To Maya's surprise, she laughed again, and clearly not a forced one.
