Why can't I be a Proper Protagonist?!

This was supposed to be a cliché story of a man who’s average in everything, aspiring to help his poor family but got into an accident and brought into another world of fantasy where he met a goddess who gave him cheats to “survive” and every beautiful girl he met falls inlove with him so he was forced to start his own harem while doing adventures around the world. Finally bringing peace and ruling over it in the end. But No, everything went to sh*t! He just graduated, got a job and one night, woke up in a world he knows nothing about, no accident, no goddess/god meeting him, no cheats, he just slept and there he was, with nothing but the clothes his wearing in his room when he went to sleep! “Whatever! I’ve always dreamt of being the protagonist in one those stories. Maybe this is it. The Goddess may just have not noticed me.. no problem, I could wait for my cheats to arrive” This is the story of a guy who naively believe he is the protagonist. Note from Author: This is a pet project of mine and I'm still new to this. So your support including you critique whether it's positive or negative(hope my weak fragile heart can take this) would be greatly appreciated. And best of all, I hope you'll enjoy my work.

Chapter 9

~Sighing… Nemitz just observe the happenings that's been going on the past few hours.

The first few minutes he vomited a few times, having to reevaluate if he did the right thing.

Now he's not even sure if his reason is still justified for doing this to another human being, seeing the bloodied bruised Jacob still screaming from getting pounded by Meredith with a frying pan, not enough to lose his life but still painful enough just seeing it make your heart turn cold.

"Hey, Meri, I think he suffered enough. Besides, we need him alive and right now I need him to be conscious."

"Tsk, you think I'm doing this because I'm having fun? Well, I won't deny it. And you only think that because you haven't suffered for the past few years like I did."

"Sorry, but you have to stop if you keep doing this he might die of internal bleeding. Anyway I still need to ask him a few questions before he becomes insane."

Shrugging Meridith just looked at Jacob again with a beaming smile on her face.

"We'll continue our fun later 'husband'. hehe" and just walked away with a skip in her step.

As she walked past him. Nemitz couldn't help but look over his shoulder and shudder. Remembering one of those famous quotes about angry women.

"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, but isn't this a bit extreme?"

Thinking about it for later, He has more pressing matters to attend to than contemplating his associates mental wellbeing. Seeing Jacob in and out of consciousness. He threw another cold water in his face to wake him up.

"You are ok down there buddy?"

Choking and freezing from the cold water, seeing Nemitz looked down on him. Jacob afraid to say anything could only gnash his teeth.

~That's good, he's afraid or maybe just cold? Please don't let this be too hard, I'm new at this bad guy thing.

Breathing deeply…

~Ok enough monologuing. Let's do this!

"Before you say anything let's set some ground rules. It's simple. I ask, you answer. Any bullsh*t and I'll let Meredith continue her fun, do we have an understanding?"

Not hearing any response from Jacob. Nemitz feigned on calling over Meridith.

"I understand. Please don't let her come here" crying and shitting his pants again Jacob couldn't bear the thought of Meredith's 'fun', seeing Nemitz stop calling that monster, he relaxes a little. But he still can't stop tearing up from the overbearing pain from the bruises and broken bones all over his body.

"Good. And oh… I almost forgot, if I ain't satisfied with your answer y'know what'll happen."

Seeing Jacob nod like a chicken pecking rice. Nemitz finally started his questioning.

After 2 hours, Meredith saw Nemitz brooding after he finished interrogating Jacob, curious she asked him if everything's alright but after a few minutes of not getting any response from him, she just shrugs and is about to walk over to Jacob to resume her fun. But before she could even take another step Nemitz stopped her.

"That's enough. We need him alive and besides I'm planning on selling him just give me time to think of a better plan."

Not minding the wide-eyed duo, they didn't even notice his expression getting gloomier by the minute.

As he resumed reflecting the information he got which is still too unbelievable for him even having thoughts that just maybe his in a coma somewhere or maybe got plug into some bullsh*t game. Cause what he heard on Jacob is just too incredulous, but he can't deny that maybe the guy is telling the truth with what he'd been through with Meredith, why make up a fantasy. Besides, he already time traveled, so now anything is pretty much possible.

~sigh… ok… so we have post apocalyptic setting with some humans developing powers cause of mutation, don't forget some species turning monsters, adding to that we have cyborgs; What the f*ck is this setting?! Maybe not far in the future aliens will be visiting!!! F*ck!!! This is like a mix and match of science fiction with magic shooting all over the place! And why, just why! Can't I be a proper protagonist like those other shits?! Somebody put me in here with literally nothing! Why can't I have some powers too huh?! I'm like the cannon fodder of the cannon fodder in here! I'm already having a hard time just fighting Jacob. It was even a surprise attack, and he's just the f*ckin mob who supplies ice!

As Nemitz was getting agitated as he ruminated the damn info dump on him, he was little by little relapsing from his old self just a few days ago. He just didn't see any hope surviving out there, he just doesn't belong here.

"F*ck it, whatever. I'm too cowardly to even kill myself. So I'll just have to do what I can do and hope for the best. As someone said before, it's better to die trying than living without doing nothing. I'd rather choose living though and doing nothing is the best." sigh…

"So you got a plan?" asked Meridith after seeing Nemitz finally found his bearings.

"Yeah, that bastard over there told me, where about 18 miles southwest of here to town called Calibore. And he has a carriage that he uses to load ice to deliver just 5 miles south, so travelling wouldn't be a problem, And there's a small compartment under the floor below the bed. Check that out and maybe there's something we could use or even a knife, I didn't see it on him when we're having the scuffle, so maybe it's there. It's already dark outside, so we'll go tomorrow morning, what do you think?"

"Sure. Whatever you want. And by the way, what's that about you selling him?" smirking at him. She didn't expect the irony of the situation. Just a few hours ago, he was a slave and not even knowing that he was about to be sold; and now, the tables have turned just like that. Meredith can't help but reevaluate him while licking her lips in a seductive manner.

Seeing that action of Meridith and the look in her eyes like a predator stalking its prey. Nemitz just gulped, as any man in his age it's normal to easily get tempted especially more so if you're a virgin but remembering Meridith bashing Jacob with the f*cking frying pan, he doesn't have the courage to even imagine it. He knows biting more than you could chew is just asking for a disaster.

Avoiding eye contact and breathing slowly to calm his nerves, Nemitz answered her with the coolness of a man who experienced a hundred battles.

"Ju-ju-just pa-paying hi-hi-him ba-ba-back."

~What.the.f*ck.was.that?! A woman showing a little interest, and I'm like a f*ckin teenager who didn't drop his balls yet! Real smooth me!

"Hahahaha! Didn't know you we're this funny. Anyway, if you want to earn some serious credits, selling slaves is a lucrative venture. But we can't sell him in Calibore, he's with them. Better we travel in Grimmaw, it's not far from Calibore."

"Ok, no problem. Are you from Grimmaw?"

"Yeah, just visited Calibore to trade but on the way back to Grimmaw our caravan got attacked by bandits, luckily I escape. I run maybe a few miles, got lost. This bastard found me by chance, thought he'd help me but instead imprisoned me here and the rest is history."

"Sorry, I've been too self-absorb and naive this past weeks that I didn't even see how much you we're suffering. Don't worry. He'll never touch you ever again."

Looking over at Jacob who's finally unconscious. Nemitz finally sigh in relief. Being on guard all the time is tiring after all. Besides being too careful doesn't hurt anybody and even if Jacob was tied with chains, Nemitz will never let his guard down. Reminding himself that most downfalls or defeats happen in novels or even movies is because of hubris or just plain old arrogance and overconfidence.

Later that night as Meridith was getting ready to sleep. Noticing Nemitz outside the bedroom guarding the unconscious bastard, "Hey, you aren't coming in? We have a big day tomorrow."

Confused, Nemitz could only respond "what do you mean coming in?"

"Guess you're still an idiot. Of course to sleep in the bed. Don't tell me you're still gonna sleep there? You could rest properly if you sleep here."

"Uhh…, I'm guarding Jacob."

"Guarding a guy who's beaten into a pulp and tied he couldn't even crawl, are you messing with me?" Seeing the dumb look on his face, she realizes what's this all about. Smirking, confident in what she thought.

"Look here you pervert. It doesn't mean that if we're sharing the same bed, were gonna have sex, alright? You need to rest and I need to rest. So get over here and just be a good boy and sleep!"

Hearing her, Nemitz couldn't help but feel embarrass. But he's actually being truthful when he told her that his guarding Jacob, and that's because he just doesn't want to risk it. What if by some miracle, Jacob untied himself and with revenge fueling him to move and kill them both in their sleep…. Okay, maybe he's just being too paranoid.

And he's main other concern, He just doesn't trust himself with her.

"Nah, I'm good. I'll sleep here. Don't worry, I won't be a burden tomorrow. Goodnight".

Hearing Nemitz. Meridith just shrugs and went to sleep.
