Chapter 2 : The mysterious letter

I went down the stairs and found Don leaning on the sofa, watching TV.

"hi don , how it's going, how's work ? "

He replied " There's no need for this , just get to the point James. Don't wast my precious time. Baseball game is about to start. So hurry up and talk ...what do you want? "

This asshole is being arrogant, but I have to calm down." The thing is , Olivia came to see me ... " He stared at me angrily " and?"

I completed " and? I'd like to discuss your rental idea...."

He pointed at me and replied " it's not an idea. It's a fact you've been informed about . If you don't want to study , or work . And since you're 18 and already working .... Why should I sweat for another grown man? So pay or pack your shit and get the hell out of here . Anything else ?" 

I said " but hang on don, I still want to study ! "

" I don't see you packing a suitcase full of books."

I replied" you know I had a sports scholarship.... And if it wasn't the injury, then..."

He interrupted me and start yelling" there are no 'if's in history, boy you're 18 . You don't study and you're sitting on my neck. I'm tired of it . I won't allow it anymore. these are the facts we have ."

I started objecting politely" let me try to change your mind! I'm not sitting idle at all . And I've been working all summer just to get an education. To pay for college. You know what I mean .so just help me here . I just have money for college. And you leave me with one of two choice either study or pay you . "

He replied" you get the point. " 

I try to complete my objection" but don . If I have to pay your rent . I'll never save up to go to college. And I'll have to keep paying you . It's a vicious circle. You can't be serious... I mean.... what do you think? I'm sure you can understand my situation...."

Then he replied " of course I can . But I don't give a shit about you and your problems. It's time you learned how to be independent. Kid .

Lesson one : you're 18 and your problems are your problems. The world doesn't revolve around you don't put your issues on me . Either pay your rent or find yourself a new place to live . So what's it gonna be? " 

I replied" I need a time to think . I'm sorry, I'm gonna...."

Then he said " whatever now get the fuck out of here .and welcome to adulthood. Boy. "

I wonder how you'd act if were Ashley who got hurt instead? . But it's okay .

 I left the living room and headed to the kitchen. As I entered I see Samantha " sam! What are you doing here ? "

She replied with a smile" try to guess. You have one shot " 

"Hmmmmm...."

She laughed" it's tea , can I pour you one? " 

" No thanks , I'm not in the mood for tea " I spoke with sadness In my voice " 

She noticed that I'm sad so she asked" what's going on? Did you have another fight with Olivia and don ? You want me to try and talk to them "

I replied " Sam you don't have to take care of me all the time. They just figured I was working my ass off for the fun of it . And they offered to accept all my savings in the form of rent. "

She stood in shock." Stop it with your jokes . You're joking right ? I can't believe they'd do that to you ! What's gotten into them ? "

I said " don's punishing me for not going to University. Teaching to be independent. "

" Wait a minute . You almost saved up for college . What do you care? "

 I replied " they're going to rob me blind with their business plan . There's not enough money for both rent and education."

She asked" did you tell them that ? I'm sure dad will understand."

Oh Sam how naïve you are . You don't know What kind of jerk is he " I dunno .To this moment we failed to come to any understanding yet "

She fell silent for a moment, then said, " I almost forgot ! Did you check our mailbox today ? "

That's weird. I replied" why I would check it ? I don't expect letter from anyone " 

She said " I'm pretty sure I saw envelope for you there "

" That's unexpected. Thanks for the heads-up . I'll check the mailbox . See you later."

I left Sam and went out to see what's in this message, and curiosity is eating me from inside. I opened the mailbox. Sam was right. this letter addressed to me . Nortale academy. Samantha studies there . Maybe they've just address it wrong ? . 

But that's my name on the letter. Might as well read it . I opened the message and began reading.

" Dear Mr. James pogger.

You have been selected to take the entrance exam for an elite institution of higher education: the nortale academy of magic and wizardy .

( Is this some kind of joke . Magic and wizard . Wtf . Anyway. I'll read it all)

To take the exam you need to arrive at the central station at 12 pm , on august 31st. 

Boarding the train to nortale takes place before 12:30 pm. Don't be late. the exam will take place on the academy grounds . September 1st. 

Please bring this letter and any personal belongings. You may need in order to settle down at the nortale dorm . "

The academy of magic and wizardy ? Haha , Sam and her jokes , very funny . . This is what I needed to complete this cursed day, a mocking message . Damn, I don't know how my life took this dreadful turn. But Enough is enough, she won't be the third person mocking me today . I'll tell her that straight to her face .

As I entered the house i found Olivia waiting for me " I heard you talked to don . How'd it go? "

I replied " we're not done talking yet . Do you know where Samantha went? I need to find her ."

Olivia began to speak in a calm tone, as if she were consoling me." Take your time. James . Let me take a look at that letter "

I handed her the message and said" but there's nothing interesting here . It's just a stupid prank from Samantha" 

She took the letter and said " I see you've already read it ...."

" Well yeah obviously. It's addressed to me " 

Olivia began speaking in a suspicious way " how long ago did it come"

I replied " I have no idea I just got it out of the mailbox"

" I need to talk to don right away . I'll hold it for now" She took the letter and start leaving .

Olivia's been acting weird lately. She should quit drinking. I wonder what make her so crazy abou

t this stupid letter. I should follow and eavesdrop.
