Light, true light, like that cast from the sun seen by billions around the world every day, was a sight foreign to Adams eyes.
He drearily awoke to this light, backed musically by the the chirping of birds. His last memory blasting out of Khornes realm in a blur of motion and into the kaleidoscopic depths of the warp where he had blacked out.
But most strikingly he couldn't feel the constant pressure of demonic influence and felt truly hungry for the first time in his life.
His stomach rumbled, twisting painfully in on itsself.
Sitting up in a hospital bed, he looked around not seeing anyone.
Raising the corner of the duvet he scooted himself off the side of the bed, pain shooting up from his heel and calf muscles as he put his weight on his feet.
I wouldn't take a step forward said Calcifer
Adam almost jumped out of his skin, hearing Calcifer, the idylic state of his waking, allowing him to happily forget that he had a resident demon in his head or more accurately one of his hearts.
Adam looked down seeing a circular line drawn around his bed.
"That looks like a sorcerers line of I ever saw one I wouldn't step over it if I was you, one time I tried and I immolated on the spot said Calcifer considerately".
Adam seeing no other option and no one around simply got back into bed, deciding to savor the comfiest sleeping arrangements his back had ever had the privilege of gracing.
'Thrones I'm hungry but this bed feels amazing' mumbled Adam to Calcifer as he fell back to sleep.
---
'Renervate'
Adam awoke violently from the first peaceful dream he had ever had unplagued by the constant attempts to breach his mind in the warp.
'What the hell' he said as his eyes were forced open unconscentially.
'Hey there KID my name is Hippocrates... I'm a healer here at St Mungos hospital, how ya feeling today' said Hippocrates with so much enthusiasm that it made Adam channel the warp into his eyes to check that this wasn't a demonette.
Seeing nothing Adam gave in to the mans boundless positivity. Though he did note that the warp seemed eerily calm, I guess Kaldor must have been exaggerating he thought.
'I'm okay I'm guess, I've got some aches and pains but everythings feeling alright, where's my clothes and my belongings, there should have been some in a belt' said Adam.
'Slow down kid you'll get them back once you've been discharged, for know though I'm going to ask you a few simple questions to assess your well being.
'Do you remember your name you came in here with heavy head trauma'.
'Yes' nodding, 'Its Adam'
'Surname'
'What' replied Adam confused.
'Like a family name'.
'I don't think I have one, I've never had any family'.
Hippocritus frowned, sitting on the bed.
'You must have had someone that raised you a guardian if you will' asked Hippocritus.
'Mmmm I did'.
'Could you give us a name so we can contact him'.
'Kaldor ... Kaldor Draigo'.
'Thats quite the distinctive name, do you know where we could find him'.
Adam didn't respond staring vacantly out of the window.
Hippocritus seeing how uncomfortable Adam had become, before asking him softly, 'May I ask when you last saw this man'.
'A few months ago, I think, but we got separated ... I don't know where he is' replied Adam.
'Mmm a bit remiss of your gaurdian'.
----
Kaldor suddenly felt the need to sneeze from where he was in the blasted wastes.
'Someone must be chatting shit'.
----
Getting his wand out, Hippocritus stood up, only for Adam to flinch.
'Calm down its only a wand boy, I'm just going to change your bandages'.
Ferula
Bandages unfurled across Adams body spiraling off before a new set seemingly out of thin air redressed themselves across his body.
"That's no warp sorcery, I've been watching them whilst you were unconscious, they seem to use those twigs to control some sort of energy through voice activation of some kind said Calcifer, it strikes me as similar to the magic of true names but only a shadow of its true strength".
Magic of true names? Have they done anything that I should be worried about replied Adam in his mind.
"I mean apart from fixing you up in way I didn't think possible. They took some peices of strange bone like shrapnel from your body and the void knife Kôrv gave you".
Oh no Kôrv, thought Adam, his mind running a hundred miles an hour, a worried frown crossing his face.
"We don't know for sure that he's dead" said Calcifer.
You're right he thought last we saw him he was lying injured in the mud. There's a small chance he got away.
'Hey kid ... Adam' Hippocrates waved his hand in front of Adam's face which had spaced out.
'There back with the living are we, I might recommend a mind healer for you, if you think you need it'.
'No ... I think I'm okay'.
'In a couple of hours there will be some aurors who will come and ask you a few questions; before I go do you have any questions for me' said Hippocrates.
'Um, yeah who are these aurors' asked Adam.
'OH... I didn't realize you weren't part of the wizarding world; your injuries and blade seemed to indicate otherwise', exclaimed Hippocrate his bushy eye brows raising comically.
"Agree you idiot, it will stop them digging too deep. From the reaction of the auror who found you they don't seem to be familiar with any demons, they couldn't even sense the warp energy in the air " hissed Calcifer in his head.
'Um .... Yes, the wizarding world'?
'Oh my, well you've given me quite the honour young man ... you're are a wizard Adam.
'A wizard ... ' replied Adam raising an eyebrow.
'Well we can't know for certain until your Hogwarts letter arrives, but I've never seen someone heal as fast as you, not even other wizards; you see potions and spells are more effective on wizards than on muggles now usually it's pretty subtle but what should have taken hours your body did in minutes.
'I guess I've always healed pretty fast'.
'If you are as skilled at magic as you heal maybe even if you study hard enough you might give old Dumbledore a run for his money', said Hippocrates jovially letting out a little chuckle at the end'.
'Know to answer your question they're like the muggle police, except they police magical crime.
"Police .. any idea what that means, Calcifer" Adam said in his head.
"Sounds an awful lot like the imperiums adeptus arbites, I swear ....".
"Arbites oh I'm so I'm fucked, Kaldor told me about the book of judgement I could have broken any number of codes" thought Adam.
'They won't come and beat me will they...'.
'Oh gods no, I haven't really been in the muggle world in the last few decades but to think the police would just beat people in the street, how times must have changed maybe Abraxus was right the muggles truly can be savages sometimes' said Hippocrates flabbergasted.
'Now I'm sure your hungry, would you like some meat pie and tripe it's one of my favourites'.
Adam didn't know what either of those dishes were, but he was sure they couldn't be worse than some of the biological waste material that Kaldor had fed him over the years.
Adam nodded.
Flicking his wand in the shape of a half circle Hippocrates cast the summoning spell Accio, causing a plate to shoot over with a whoosh from the open dumb waiter across the room and onto Adams's lap.
'Don't just stare at it, I could hear your stomach rumbling from outside the room'.
