Offer

Truly a laughing situation.

Kane's voice came [Hey don't reject him.]

Drake rubbed his eyes. <You want me to accept this proposal?.>

[No, but you don't have to reject him.]

<Not to accept and reject, are you out of your mind?>

[Hehe, do you believe your mother sent William for you to accept the offer?]

His hand froze. < Yeah, it makes no sense for her to send an offer like that. Even a fool will reject this offer. > He looked up and stared into William's eyes.

Kane's voice came [You will lose either way, so what you will do?]

He knew what to do here. With a reluctant face, he asked, "Mister William, can you tell me why my brother needs me as his slave? I mean, I don't have any kind of power in the family and even my life is barely hanging. What is the point of having me as a slave?"

William stared at him with a face full of questions and said, "Young master, you really have a pretty clear understanding of your situation." nodding his head in approval, William continued, "Well, you are right. You have nothing much to offer, but your position as a candidate on the bench is much more beneficial."

He shook his head in interject, "I have no interest in the young Lord's position. I only want to live peacefully. If you guys help me survive, I will vote for my brother and do my best to support my brother. Just please let me live in peace."

[Geez, you are begging with that poker face, and what with wanting a peaceful life. Your acting is so bad haha. At least drop some tears.]

He ignored the inner voice and started rubbing his eyes till they were red.

William had his eyes wide for a moment at his offer, he stared at him for a long time and then shook his head. "Young master, there is no other option. You have to choose either accept my lady offer or reject it."

He sighed. There was no point in continuing this. He tried, but it did not look like William had any plan to change the conditions, so he said, "Well then, I would like to reject the offer, mister William."

William got up and bowed to him. "Well then, I will inform my lady about that. I hope you will be ready to face the consequences of your choice." With that, William walked out of the hall, leaving Drake alone.

Kane's voice came, [you failed miserably there man.]

He looked up at the ceiling, < I tried, but I don't think he would budge for my persuasion.>

[Yeah, it feels like this was a stunt, reason unknown. She did not want your survival from the start. From this situation, we can be sure your mother wants you dead, the same as your stepmother. That left us your uncle but… 'sigh'.]

A silence formed in the room. Kane did not expect so much going behind the seemingly simple mob character. There were already so many wanting Drake dead even before they entered the academy, and he knew there was much worse waiting for them in the academy.

Kane laughed, [Damn Drake, your life is so interesting. It is like a survival game where the difficulty increases every hour. Haha]

< sigh I hope to not get any more trouble.>

[Nah, the big guns are still waiting, dude. haha]

Drake helplessly shook his head. There was nothing he could do right now. <By the way, I still don't understand why my mother sent William here. Any idea?>

[Who knows what going on her mind? Well, let's hope whatever she is planning will not affect us before we enter the academy.]

<mm > Drake nodded and then looked at the surrounding books. After the meeting with William, he canceled his plan to question the old assistant. Now that he had a basic idea of the family situation. He planned to invest this time in increasing his knowledge.

[Better to focus on history.]

He picked up the book on history and started reading.

After a few hours of reading, he heard the knock on the door.

With a creaking sound, the hall door pushed open, and a guard peaked inside and said. "Young master, your assistant is calling for you."

He closed the book and did a little stretching. It was finally time for the meeting. He walked out of the hall and saw the old assistant standing at the door.

The old assistant bowed to him. "Young sir, it's time for you to attend the meeting."

He nodded his head and turned to the guards. "You guys, there are few books left there," pointed to inside the hall, "make sure nobody touched them. I will come back to collect them."

"Yes, young master." Both guards bowed down to him.

He turned back to the old assistant. "Lead the way."

Not wasting time, the old man started moving. With a few turns and stairs, they reached in front of a small corridor. The old man stopped at the entrance of the corridor and pointed inside. "Young sir, the gate to the meeting chamber is at the other end of the corridor," the old man went to the opposite side of the corridor.

He walked to the other side of the corridor, where he found a man in a white uniform waiting for him. The man gave him a little nod and then led him in front of a small silver gate. After that, the man in the white suit backed away.

He pushed open the gate and found himself at the edge of a massive chamber. The chamber had an inclined floor, with the center being approximately 2 floors lower than its edge.

The chamber was in the shape of an inverted cone with a flat bottom. The center circle had a round table with a round 15+ empty chair.

There were 2 rings of flat floor on the height on 1st and 2nd floor level. The bottom ring at the height of the 1st floor had 3 massive chairs while the upper ring at the height of the 2nd floor had 11 big chairs placed in a way that surrounded the center circle of the hall.

The extreme edge of the chamber was at 2-and-a-half floor height. Looking around, he found there were 3 more gates, one at the opposite end while the other 2 were at the left and right end.

There was a long stair in front of all the gates that led to the bottom of the chamber. He walked down the stairs and came to the round table. Interestingly, the color of the 4 chairs on the table was silver, while the others were blue.

He understood that the family had set up all of this for the formation of the young Lord selection bench. This showed how much importance the family gave to this matter.

He sat on the silver chair and started waiting for others.
