In the city of Lunaris, magic is more than a tool—it's a currency, a source of power that defines status and influence. Aldara, once part of the elite Mage Guild, now works as an independent investigator after leaving behind the dangerous politics of the magical world. But when one of the most powerful mages in the city, Solon Meron, reports the impossible—a theft of his most protected spells—Aldara is drawn into a mystery that threatens the very foundations of Lunaris. As she delves deeper into the case, Aldara uncovers a pattern of spell thefts targeting the city’s most influential mages. But these aren’t just random robberies; whoever is behind the thefts is wielding ancient magic long thought to be extinct—magic capable of breaking through the strongest defenses without leaving a trace. With no clues and a growing sense of dread, Aldara races against time to discover the identity of the mysterious thief. As tensions rise within the Mage Guild and the stolen spells begin to surface in dangerous places, Aldara must confront not only the hidden enemies within Lunaris but also the ghosts of her past that still haunt her.

Chapter 1Shadows of Lunaris

Lunaris was a city cloaked in magic, with shadows that seemed to have a life of their own. At night, the glow of enchanted lanterns gave its streets an ethereal quality, casting long, thin shadows over cobbled streets and whispering secrets that only the wind could hear. The Mage Guild towered above the city center, its spires like dark talons piercing the sky. It was the heart of power, the home of the council that ruled Lunaris, and the place Aldara once called home.

But tonight, she was not a mage of the Guild. Tonight, she was nothing more than a shadow among shadows.

Aldara moved silently through the narrow alleyways, her hood pulled low to hide her face. Her heartbeat quickened with each step as she navigated the twisting paths. She knew these streets well, had walked them countless times before, but tonight was different. Tonight, she was on the hunt for information—secrets hidden deep within the heart of the Guild, secrets that no one was meant to uncover.

The night air was cool against her skin, carrying the faint scent of spices and smoke from the marketplace. The shops had closed hours ago, and most of Lunaris was asleep, but Aldara knew better than to let her guard down. The Guild's eyes and ears were everywhere, and if they caught wind of what she was doing, the consequences would be severe.

As she reached the edge of the marketplace, she paused, listening to the faint hum of magic that pulsed in the air around her. Magic was woven into the very fabric of Lunaris, like threads of light that connected everything within the city's walls. To Aldara, it was as familiar as breathing, but there was something unsettling about it tonight. The magic felt different, darker somehow, as though it were watching her, waiting for her to make a mistake.

She shook off the feeling, reminding herself of why she was here. Her contact had told her about a hidden archive beneath the Guild, a place where forbidden knowledge was kept—ancient texts, records of spells, and, most importantly, details of the First Magic. The First Magic was a power as old as the city itself, a force that the Guild had tried to control for centuries. Aldara had grown up hearing stories of its dangers, its ability to warp reality, to twist minds. But what she hadn't known, what the Guild had kept hidden, was that they had been using it.

The thought sent a shiver down her spine. She had trusted the Guild once, believed in its purpose, but that trust had been shattered when she discovered the truth. The Guild was not protecting Lunaris—they were controlling it. And if what she'd learned was true, they were willing to sacrifice the very people they claimed to protect to keep that control.

Steeling herself, Aldara slipped into the shadows, her footsteps silent as she made her way to the hidden entrance her contact had described. The entrance was concealed behind an old tapestry in one of the abandoned buildings near the Guild's outer walls. The building had once been a storehouse, a place where merchants kept their wares before the Mage Guild had seized control of all trade in Lunaris. Now it was little more than a ruin, forgotten by most—except for those who knew where to look.

She reached the tapestry, brushing her fingers over the faded fabric until she found the small, engraved rune hidden in the corner. She whispered the incantation she'd memorized, and the wall behind the tapestry shimmered, revealing a narrow staircase leading down into darkness.

With a final glance over her shoulder, Aldara stepped through the illusion, descending the staircase into the depths of the Guild.

The air grew colder as she went deeper, the stone walls closing in around her. Flickering orbs of light lined the walls, casting an eerie glow over the narrow passage. Aldara kept her hand close to the dagger at her side, her senses alert. She was alone, but she could feel the weight of the Guild's presence pressing down on her. It was as though the walls themselves were watching her, waiting to trap her if she strayed even slightly from her path.

The staircase ended at a large iron door, its surface covered in runes that pulsed with a faint, ominous light. Aldara studied the door for a moment, recognizing the wards designed to keep intruders out. She reached into her cloak, pulling out a small vial of powdered ash—a rare ingredient she had acquired from an alchemist who dealt in illegal wares. With a quick, practiced motion, she sprinkled the ash over the runes, muttering a counter-spell under her breath.

The runes faded, and the door creaked open.

Beyond the door was a vast chamber filled with shelves of books and scrolls, each one radiating a faint magical energy. This was it—the forbidden archive. Aldara's heart raced as she stepped inside, her gaze sweeping over the shelves. She knew she didn't have much time; the wards would reset soon, and if she was still here when they did, she'd be trapped.

She moved quickly, scanning the spines of the books, her fingers brushing over ancient leather bindings. Many of the texts were written in languages she didn't recognize, symbols and runes that seemed to shift and change as she looked at them. But then, near the back of the room, she found it—a large, dusty tome bound in black leather, its title inscribed in silver: The Chronicles of the First Magic.

Her breath caught as she opened the book, her eyes widening as she took in the words. The text was dense, filled with descriptions of rituals, spells, and the history of the First Magic. But what struck her most were the accounts of how the Guild had used it, bending its power to their will, binding it to artifacts and spells that allowed them to control not only magic but the very minds of the people of Lunaris.

Aldara felt a surge of anger as she read, her fingers tightening on the pages. The Guild had always claimed to protect the people, to serve as guardians of Lunaris's magic. But they were nothing more than tyrants, using the First Magic to keep the city under their control.

As she turned the page, a slip of parchment fell from between the pages, landing softly on the floor. She picked it up, her pulse quickening as she recognized the handwriting—it was Marcellus's. She had once trained under him, had looked up to him as a mentor. But now, she saw him for what he truly was—a manipulator, a man who would do anything to maintain his power.

The parchment contained a short, hastily scrawled note:

"The First Magic is awakening. The disciples grow stronger. We must be prepared to sacrifice whatever is necessary to maintain control. The people cannot know the truth."

Aldara's blood ran cold. The disciples—she'd heard whispers of them, a secret group within the Guild who believed in harnessing the full power of the First Magic, regardless of the cost. If Marcellus was involved with them, then the situation was far worse than she'd imagined.

Suddenly, a faint sound echoed through the chamber—the creak of a door, the soft murmur of voices. Panic surged within her as she realized someone was coming. She couldn't afford to be caught, not here, not now.

She slipped the parchment into her cloak and closed the book, hurrying back toward the entrance. But as she reached the door, the voices grew louder, and she saw the flicker of torchlight at the top of the staircase.

Thinking quickly, Aldara ducked behind one of the shelves, her heart pounding as the voices drew closer.

"Are you sure the wards were triggered?" one of the voices asked, a deep, gruff tone that Aldara recognized as belonging to one of the Guild's enforcers.

"Yes," another voice replied, sharper and filled with authority. "Someone's been here. Check the archives and make sure nothing's been taken."

Aldara pressed herself against the shelf, holding her breath as the footsteps grew nearer. She could feel the cold sweat on her brow, her mind racing as she tried to think of a way out. If they found her, there would be no escape.

She heard the rustling of pages as one of the enforcers began searching the shelves, his heavy footsteps echoing through the chamber. Aldara's fingers tightened around her dagger, ready to fight if necessary. But then, another sound caught her attention—a faint hum, barely audible, but enough to send a chill down her spine.

The First Magic.

The hum grew louder, filling the room with a low, thrumming energy. Aldara could feel it pulsing through her, a dark, powerful force that seemed to resonate with her very bones. She'd heard of the First Magic's effects, had read stories of its corrupting influence, but she'd never felt it like this. It was as though the magic itself was reaching out to her, calling her, tempting her to give in.

She fought against the pull, focusing on her breathing, on the steady rhythm of her heartbeat. She couldn't afford to lose control, not here, not now.

The voices grew distant as the enforcers moved deeper into the chamber, and Aldara took the opportunity to slip out from behind the shelf, making her way toward the door. She kept her movements slow, careful not to make a sound, her eyes fixed on the staircase just beyond the doorway.

But as she reached the threshold, a sudden surge of energy shot through her, a wave of magic so powerful that it left her gasping. She stumbled, catching herself against the doorframe, her vision blurring as the First Magic pulsed around her.

"Who's there?" one of the enforcers shouted, his voice filled with alarm.

Aldara forced herself to move, pushing through the pain as she sprinted up the staircase. The enforcers' voices echoed behind her, but she didn't look back. She couldn't afford to. She reached the top of the stairs and burst through the hidden entrance, the cool night air hitting her like a wave of relief.

She didn't stop running until she was well away from the marketplace, her heart pounding as she slipped into the shadows of a narrow alleyway. She leaned against the wall, catching her breath, her mind racing as she processed what she'd seen.

The First Magic was awakening. The disciples were growing stronger. And the Guild was willing to sacrifice anything, anyone, to keep their secret.

Aldara's gaze hardened as she straightened, her resolve strengthening. The Guild had controlled Lunaris for too long, had kept its people in the dark, using fear and deception to maintain their power. But now she knew the truth. And she was going to make sure the people of Lunaris knew it too.

The fight was just beginning.

GlaringError here! As I have already mentioned in my author review I am restating it here since I am getting tons of comments about it, that I am more of a reader myself than a writer, I made this novel in an attempt to capture my fantasy world residing in my mind into words.. Writing is new for me.. The premise of my novel is inspired by many great works that I have loved over the years. And some elements I have in my novel that are slightly similar to them but it's just the skeleton of it, the real meat of the plot is entirely my own cooking. Some of the influence that is more noticeable is from The Runesmith (By Kuropon), The King's Avatar (By Butterfly Blue) and Shadow Slave (By Guiltythree). I have immense respect for these legends and I can only hope to follow in their footsteps. To all those who comment just by judging the name, at least give it a chance before letting your opinions be known. Thank you.

I Can Copy And Evolve Talents

Ul’Tra-el is a world that grew a voice, because of this voice, it began to take a different path from other worlds -- it was filled with a core anomaly – rifts. Dimensions began to leak into each other, vomiting outrageous monsters. In response or as an auto-correction to such anomaly, talents were awakened in the inhabitants of Ul’Tra-el and they gained tremendous power, for every rift they close down, they were rewarded massively by the voice of the world called Ul. In a hardcore world like this one, our MC (Northern) reincarnated as a talentless individual but in the face of a death and a head splitting revelation... ...when all hopes seemed lost. {System Notice} Your Soul cannot take a form Searching for Unique pattern ability for your soul searching... search found. Unique System ability has been found... Unique System Ability [CopyCat] has been gained. Awakening Unique ability... Northern gained a talent copying system! ... Follow Northern through his journey as he becomes the pinnacle of this world. This a story about a white-haired boy’s rise from rubbles!! Note: This is an overpower genre but MC does not just start off like that. Even though MC can copy talents he doesn't just jump around copying talents because there's a limitation. However, his rise to strength is depicted and is an experience to enjoy. The first few hundreds would be frustrating to follow because MC is weak but that makes the experience all the more interesting when MC finally gets freaking strong and starts wiping the floor with everyones asses.
