Life in the Castle

A week had passed since his parents had left and Adam already missed their presence. He had never been without them since he was born. Having turned five, Adam was allowed more access to knowledge about his family and about the inner workings of the castle since he lived there now.*

*(I forgot to mention that the rate that people mature at in this world is 2x that of Earth. So if someone is five, they have the mental capacity of ten. This does not affect their overall age as magic slows aging to some degree as more power is gained.)

Every day had been the same so far, but was not boring in the least. In the morning, he would train with instructors then have breakfast. After breakfast, he would spend some time working with the princess on her magic control and casting speed as her method had already been set by the king. Once he was done there, he would make his way to the library and read books at random to cover up the fact that he had already scanned the entire library and had divided up the sections to be learned more easily. He would take his lunch in the library and then from there he would go and learn about politics from the king. They would all convene and have dinner together and then he would return to his room and meditate on his method.

He had to learn and progress as much as he could in the next three years so that he could reach acolyte level one before entering school. All royalty had to attend the academy once they reached the age of eight. Some would leave early because their birthdays fell at an odd time or they were deemed exceptional.

This day in particular was different from the rest, as today, an instructor from the academy was due to arrive. He was coming to view their progress and recommend a path of study for Adam and Gwen. Specializations was a key way for young mages to grow rapidly and advance levels. This was set in Adams mind as he shouldn't be that far from reaching the acolyte level since the least amount of magic he had recorded from an acolyte was an MP of 250.

As he was thinking about his plans for the future, the previously mentioned instructor arrived. She was tall and skinny with strawberry blonde hair which indicated that she was a fire and light mage. She had modest facial features and didn't appear to be older than twenty-three.

"Hello young ones. I am here today to test your affinities and help you decide a path forward. You may call me Instructor Sarah and I am a rank one mage." Sarah said

"Its a pleasure to meet you." Gwen and I greeted at the same time.

"Lets get started shall we? I have here an orb that will tell your strongest elements. It will also tell me which path you are best associated with. All you have to do is channel a bit of magic into it." Sarah said as she held the orb out to Gwen first.

Gwen placed her hand on the orb and it almost immediately started to glow a blue-silver color. This indicated that she was adept at spirit and water magic.

"Very good. Princess, your strongest element is spirit with water coming in second. Your most promising path is the oracle path, which provides foresight and elemental summoning." Sarah said.

The princess nodded and then stepped aside so that I could take my turn. I reached out and placed my hand on the orb and channeled a bit of magic. The orb shown like a rainbow with all of its colors and began to tremble and crack. It very quickly turned to dust under my touch.

All in the room were in shock, to include the king and Sarah.

"I have never seen anything like this. You have an affinity for all the elements, your strongest being spirit and the rest being equal with each other. The path that I felt for you is an ancient and powerful one. It is called the necron path and allows you to be a powerful summoner and one who raises the dead to fight for you." Sarah said visibly shaken.

The whole room became silent as she made this statement. It was evident that this path had not appeared in a very long time and was quite rare at that.

"Although the path is not inherently a bad path. Its power could be used to cause mass destruction if given time." Sarah said as she turned a little pale while thinking about something.
