Chapter 1Cameo

Inside of a dark and grim room, a disheveled, white haired scientist paced back and forth with a nervous smile on his face.

'In just five seconds, my masterpiece will be complete! But… what if it fails?' He thought, looking over to a large cylindrical container that was filled with red liquid.

Inside of it was the body of a boy who looked to be the age of 12. He had soft, smooth skin that had a slight tan. His hair was a deep black, and it was curly.

He was 5 foot 2 inches, and he looked seemingly normal to the naked eye.

Suddenly, the boy opened his eyes, which were a radiant amber. He looked around the room until his gaze fell upon the scientist, who was….

Dancing.

"What are you doing?" The young man asked.

As he heard the voice, the scientist froze for a moment. 'He can talk!? I thought I'd need to teach him that!'

"Ahem, this is what I like to call the super-terrific scientist shuffle, it's a dance I was saving for this very moment." The scientist said.

'Wait, why did I say that!?' Wondered the scientist.

In reality, the scientist had spent so long away from talking to others that he ended up forgetting how to socialize.

"The… super-terrific scientist shuffle?" Asked the boy, looking slightly confused.

"Erm, yes. Anyways, how can you talk?" The scientist asked.

"What do you mean?" Responded the boy.

"What! There's no way… unless…" the scientist said as his eyes widened, "Are you a spirit!? How dare you posses my creation!"

"A what?" Asked the boy.

At this point It became clear to the scientist that there was something wrong, but without a dissection he would be unable to find what was wrong with his creation.

"Never mind." The scientist said, deciding to try and understand a little more.

Pulling a lever that was right next to the cylindrical container, the colored liquid was removed and the container opened up soon after.

The boy was unable to hold himself up, and stumbled. The scientist came up to help him soon after.

Looking downwards, the scientist had an expression of pain, "You will soon learn that as a man, I have given you a great gift."

"What do you mean?" The young man asked. He was now sitting down on a cushioned chair covered by a spare lab coat.

"Not only will it be at a tolerable size when not in use, it will grow into a whole 6 inches when it is required to! If only my father did such a thing for me…" The scientist lamented.

"Huh?"

"Ah whatever, I guess I've still succeeded at something no mortal has ever done before. I've created my own synthetic angel, after all.

Well I should probably give your species a better name. How about… construct? No, that's too generic."

After ponding for a bit, the scientist finally came up with something.

"Yes, a Cameo. That's a good name."

***

Just like that, the scientist, who's real name was Claude Avon Candlesworth, began raising his creation.

The young Cameo was given a name, Cyril Avon Candlesworth. There wasn't any true meaning behind it.

For the next three years of his life, Cyril was raised by the scientist, Claude. It seemed that Claude actually didn't know what he was going to after he created Cyril, so he somehow ended up becoming a father.

Cyril was taught all sorts of things, and although he was above average in terms of intelligence, he wasn't able to understand half of what his father would say.

As his father would usually be doing science stuff, Cyril was mostly left alone. As they lived in isolation, the boy had read his father's books to pass the time.

He would read stories about adventurers and heroes, young Cyril wished to be just like the protagonists of those stories.

It was also there he had found out about magic, but as a synthetic angel, or Cameo as his father called him, Cyril was unable to perform such things.

It was odd, as according to his father angels were supposed to be talented at magic, but here he was unable to even cast a single spell.

Still, that didn't discourage him one bit.

His father actually had a fair bit of influence, so he agreed to send Cyril to Illios Academy, a place that was well known for pumping out famous and successful individuals.

With a newfound determination, Cyril did the only thing he could do, train to become a knight.

The Synthesis Wizard

In a world where elements lay barren and powerful wizards had abandoned their homeland a millennium ago to explore the multiverse, Sunan found himself reincarnated as a noble scion stripped of his title. This world, once brimming with magic and wonder, had fallen into a desolate state, and wizards had become mere legends. Sunan was acutely aware that after a thousand years, the elements would awaken once more, heralding the return of the wizards and ushering in a new era of prosperity. He understood that his path was clear: he must train diligently to become a wizard himself and survive until this glorious age arrived. “Resources are scarce?” he mused, determination flickering in his eyes. “Then I’ll just have to synthesize them myself.” With that thought, he activated the Synthesis Cube, a device that granted him the ability to combine materials into something new. This Cube was not just a tool; it was a symbol of his potential in this world, reflecting his status as a player in a game he once played. As he set to work, the Cube glowed with possibilities, presenting him with a myriad of options. He had a few basic materials at his disposal, remnants of his previous life and the knowledge he had accumulated from his past experiences in the game. Sunan began experimenting, combining herbs and minerals he had gathered. Each successful synthesis filled him with a sense of accomplishment, inching him closer to his goal of becoming a wizard. Days turned into weeks, and Sunan’s skills improved rapidly. He crafted potions, improved his understanding of magical theories, and honed his mental abilities through intense meditation practices. The Star Ring Meditation, one of the first techniques he mastered, allowed him to tap into the latent mental energy within himself, enhancing his cognitive functions and magical sensitivity. As he progressed, whispers of his endeavors began to circulate among the remaining noble families and the common folk. Some viewed him with suspicion, while others saw potential in the young man who dared to challenge the status quo. Sunan knew he needed allies. He began seeking out individuals who shared his vision—a return to the age of wizards. He discreetly approached the remnants of the nobility, the few who still held some influence, and began to forge connections. His reputation grew cautiously, and with it, the opportunities to gather resources and knowledge. He learned of hidden libraries, ancient texts, and artifacts that could aid in his quest. One fateful day, while exploring a forgotten ruin, he uncovered an ancient tome detailing the rituals of the wizards who had once thrived on this land. The pages contained knowledge that could accelerate his growth, including spells long lost to time. “This is it,” Sunan thought as he carefully transcribed the contents into his own notes. “With this, I can not only learn the spells but also improve my synthesis techniques.” As he delved deeper into the arcane arts, he realized that the key to his ascension lay not just in personal power but in understanding the intricate web of alliances and rivalries that defined noble society. He had to navigate these treacherous waters carefully. In the back of his mind, Sunan always remembered the impending return of the wizards. The time was coming when he would have to reveal his true potential and lead the charge into the new era. With each passing day, he grew stronger, more confident, and increasingly aware of the responsibilities that awaited him. The world was changing, and Sunan was determined to be at the forefront of that change—a wizard in a world that had forgotten what it meant to wield true power.
