Scene 14

(This scene opens with Femi in the office, talking with some clients, Susan is seated opposite him).

Femi: Mrs Okpanachi we are glad that you accepted our proposal and gave us the contract, be rest assured that we won't let you down.

Mrs Okpanachi: I know you won't, that's why I'm here.

Femi: (Laughs). It is, thank you. So Susan here has all the paper work ready. (Susan hands her the brown envelope). Everything that needs to be signed down to the last detail of the legal aspects are in there.

Mrs Okpanachi: I believe that this would be a wonderful partnership.

Femi: I believe it will. That will be all for now, Susan will show you out.

(They all stand up and Femi and Mrs Okpanachi shake hands then Susan shows her out. As Femi is about to leave the room, his phone began to ring. He brings it out of his breast pocket and picked it).

Femi: Working from home and still making lots of money, I want to be like you when I grow up. (As the conversation is going on Femi heads to his office and takes his seat).

Fredrick: I wish you all the best in your life's endeavour.

Femi: Amen my brother, amen. So what can I do for you apart from letting you know that things are running smoothly in the company without you?

Fredrick: Nothing I guess. (Laughs).

Femi: See we are surviving without you. We are doing fine here.

Fredrick: Why are you still telling me?

Femi: Because Fred, you will not be okay if you don't hear the words exactly and know how well we are doing so. We just closed the deal with Mrs Okpanachi, she's given us the contract.

Fredrick: That's great news, exactly what I want to hear.

Femi: I know it is. So any plans for today asides from sitting in front of your computer looking at numbers and charts like you are stock market regulator.

Fredrick: Ha ha, very funny and no. I don't have any other thing to do than be a stock market operator. Maybe I might later on but for now nothing.

Femi: Okay Mr Broker. Speaking of, what about this girl you have been telling me about, erm Anna right.

Fredrick: Yes, what happen?

Femi: No need to be hostile man. So when are you going to introduce her cause I'm starting to think that she is just a figment of your imagination.

Fredrick: What! Figment of my... I wonder why I speak to you at times in fact why I even have you as a friend. Anna is very real.

Femi: Is she now?

Fredrick: Yes, she is and she just walked into the living room now.

Femi: Hmm, the tension in your voice, you only get that when you are nervous and are stressing to impress. You like her don't you

Fredrick: What, I don't get nervous and I'm not stressing to impress neither am I liking anybody.

Femi: You have never been a good liar Fred. Yes, you get nervous, a little though. You always reach for your tie or neck when you do. Yes, you stress to impress like you were trying to do for your 10th anniversary with El. And yes you like her and with you will end the call because you would like to speak to her before she goes back to her room so you don't have to go there and knock. So manly of you Fredrick. Oh don't forget to say you hate me before you hang up.

Fredrick: Oh how I so hate you Femi, I hate you.

Femi: Yeah, that's the spirit. You know... (Fredrick hangs up). Hello. (Smiles). Fredrick you predictable man.

(He drops his phone on his desk and smiles again. Fredrick is then shown siting in the living room, shaking his head. Anna then walks in).

Anna: Hey boss. Afternoon.

Fredrick: Hey Anna, afternoon.

Anna: Look at you being causal, it's like I'm in a trance or in another world.

Fredrick: (Laughs loudly). I can be casual, my look today is proof. Where are you headed?

Anna: Uh, just want to go see my parents, it's been a while. (The other staff start peeping from the kitchen).

Fredrick: Well that's good. Let me take you then.

Anna: Thank you sir, no need to.

Fredrick: But I want to. I mean I get to see your parents.

Anna: You want to see my parents.

Fredrick: Sure, you are going there, I'm just taking you there and wala there we are me and your parents. (Anna laughs). And besides by the time you are getting back it will be late and I will prefer it if I were with you at that time.

Anna: (Smiles). If you insist.

Fredrick: Yes, I do. Let me grab my keys from my study.

(He goes into his study, then touches his neck before he picks his keys and comes back out).

Fredrick: Shall we?

Anna: Yes we shall.

(They start to leave then the other staff are shown coming out. They go to the living room window and see as Fredrick opens the gate, goes back to drive the car out and comes back again to close the gate. The other staff get back from the window and starts shouting, then Kunle and Chuks shake each other. Fredrick and Anna are then shown in the car as Fredrick is driving).

Fredrick: So any heads up for me before I see your parents?

Anna: Let's see, do you speak or understand Yoruba?

Fredrick: No.

Anna: (She pats his shoulder). Then you are good to go. You will do just fine. Just fine.

(Fredrick laughs and she smiles).

Scene 14b

(This scene opens with Anna and Fredrick entering the house laughing).

Fredrick: Your dad is a character.

Anna: Tell me about it.

Fredrick: I can also see where all your crazy is coming from.

Anna: Thank you. You know if you keep treating me like this I might just end up being strangled by one of your fan girls.

Fredrick: What. (Laughs). Nobody is going to kill you because I'm being nice to you. (They stop at the middle of the living room).

Anna: You don't know that, people have killed for way less.

Fredrick: Really, like what?

Anna: A pen or a chicken I don't know. (Fredrick laughs). All I'm saying is if.

Fredrick: Uhmm.

Anna: If, just if you might by chance on day probably coincidentally give me a ride again or your ATM card we should stay clear of places you have fans.

Fredrick: Wow that's a tough one cause that would mean that we would have to be shopping outside Lagos.

(Anna laughs and he smiles. He then comes closer to her and he slowly brings his face closer to hers and they kiss. As they are kissing, the kids are being shown as they gently close their door and squeal quietly as they get on their bed. Tomike is shown squeezing her face and Dayo is smirking, when Tomike looks at him he stops, Then Kunle is shown looking from the window outside and Chuks,Titi and Ene are shown peeping from the kitchen door then they close it gently. Ene and Titi clap their hands on each other's and Chuks goes to the kitchen window, stretches his hand out and Kunle shakes it).
