Feigning Tears

Anita looked at her mother in shock but she did not say anything. She dares not say anything. But yet, she could not believe her mother has been the mind behind Ify and K getting engaged. And there she was saying she would never speak to K again for the rest of her life because he left Lanre. Not that she likes Lanre, but at least it would be better for him to end up with a stranger like Lanre than with her own cousin, not the man she use to crush on!

“So mom, what do you want me to say to Gozie since he said he is no longer interested in the girl?” Anita asked her mother. The woman eyes her disapprovingly and asked her if she was still a kid that she has no idea on what to do to convince a man to like a woman. Anita shook her head which annoyed Mrs. Okafor.

“Tell Gozie to come back that I am sick. Tell him you found me lying on the floor when you came to visit. Also call the doctor”. Mrs. Okafor said to her daughter. She sat down on the couch massaging her head with her fingers. Anita smirked. She excused herself from her mother’s presence but the woman asked her to do whatsoever she wanted in her presence. Anita chuckled. She took out her phone and tells her mother she would be calling the doctor first. And so she did, she called the family doctor telling him they had an emergency. After which she called Gozie feigning tears as she spoke to him.

“Brother Gozie!” She called out crying. Gozie noticed she was crying so he asked her if anything was wrong. Following the fact that she had just gotten married not quite long ago, Gozie panicked. He was already fearful her cries has something to do with her marital affairs. He hoped his brother in-law was not doing any wrong to his younger sister.

“It’s mom! I came to see her for the first time since I and Michael returned to Nigeria only to find her unconscious on the floor. I don’t know what to do as Dad is out of town”. She said crying, cries that were not real. Her words incited fear into Gozie’s heart more than when he thought it has to do with his sister’s marriage. He immediately asked her if she has taken the mother to the hospital or like a child she decided to call first knowing fully well he was too far away to help matters now. Anita told him she already called the doctor but she was afraid because their mom was still unconscious and she could not pick her pulse.

“You know what, I will be taking the next possible flight back to Nigeria even though I have to buy somebody’s ticket. Please stay with mama! Hope your husband will allow that?” Gozie asked Anita. She told him she was not sure but she would talk to him and that she believes he will understand.
