Watched… for now, for eternity

I sat in bed, the door in front of me haunting me like a ghost from the past.

It sat there like nothing was wrong. It's handle seducing me into reaching for it.

For the last ten minutes I had been sat there watching the door. The swirling colors constantly bombarding me with curiosity.

I don't know how it had appeared but it had. The moment that I had gone to open the bedroom door it had appeared.

It was not like these sorts of things didn't happen but that was usually deliberately done by some mage. However those people were the serious types and I doubt that they would do something like this just to harass a normal citizen.

Though I couldn't rule out the possibility I still sat back on my bed and contemplated. It was like some sort of supernatural sense. Over the time that I sat there. The minutes passed by, and I found myself more and more sure of myself.

That if I opened the door in front of me, like Pandora's box, it would bring both great fortune and great tragedy.

I gulped, the spit that had accumulated in my mouth swallowed down. My legs swung over the ledge of my bed.

My hand reached towards the door, my mind completely made. I was not a timid person, if I had an opinion or something that I wanted to do then I would do said thing with my utmost attention.

And I had decided to damn the consequences and open this door. Whether it was as my instincts told me and was a great possibility, or it was some grand prank by a bored apprentice. I would go forth without fear. Without hesitation,

With a twist the door opened.

For just a moment my eyes were blinded. An eternal darkness consuming my vision. It felt like I was just one of millions of trillions of specks. A nothing in the grand scheme of the universe.

Yet just a moment after that very feeling I was shook from that nothingness by the heaviness of an object weighing down my hands.

It felt light, yet heavy. A foreign feeling, yet so familiar. It was as if I had wielded it my whole life but for the life of me I knew that it was the first time I had held such an object.

'No… not just an object it was a…'

A rifle, one made for long distance shooting. It could travel hundreds of miles in a single second with deadly precision only hindered by the sight and accuracy of the user.

However instinctually I knew that if I were to raise it and aim, I would not miss.

I looked down and inspected it, despite the heavy markings of technology the same instinct that told of my accuracy also told of its nature.

A magical artifact that need not be loaded with bullets just the mana of the user. I closed my eyes, the warmth in my stomach flaring out and reaching the rifle.

It pulsed and just for a second time froze. No it was not right to say for a second as time had actually frozen.

The snow that had been gradually falling upon me had stopped. I could count each and every individual snowflake.

I counted in my head, the seconds ticking by until I reached a whole five seconds. At that precise moment I saw something.

It weighed on my mind, like some sort of eldritch being that no human should withstand contact with.

It almost broke my mind with its very presence. Another second ticked by and still it had not moved.

I ran, I was not ashamed to say that. I ran to the nearest building. The door opening automatically like some sort of weird mix between magic and technology. At least that was what it seemed like.

'No! No pondering, get inside." I had to bombard my own head with warnings as it felt the need to inquire into the nature of everything around me.

"You… what are you doing out!? Get in now!"

I flinched for a moment at the sudden sound. However I did not dally any longer.

The same instinct was screaming at me that death would come for me if I were to not follow.

Without hesitation I flung myself inside as fast as I could.

I heaved a sigh of relief once I was inside.

'Not over…'

"What!" I yelled, my eyes roaming the dark expanse that had taken my vision once again.

Some sort of shadow, or was it a break in the dark.

I shook my head, it did not matter. It was hostile. I could feel it.

I raised the rifle in my hand and took aim. A breath and a bolt of pure energy flew from the barrel.

I watched as it flew. Almost slow motion in its speed.

Yet right when it was about to hit it disappeared. Swallowed by the same darkness.

'Why… why even live… your life is worthless… just die…'

I dropped my rifle, my hands reaching to my head to grab it.

Frantically I scratched at myself. Trying to do something… anything to get these thoughts from my mind.

'Useless! Demon! Trash! Just die already!'

SLAP

I felt a sharp sensation on my cheek, the pain waking me from my trance. Colors flooded my vision. A futuristic hallway greeting me.

I looked down to my hand, the one holding my rifle and the wall. It had a giant hole in it, still smoking from something that I could only think to come from the shot I had taken.

"Was that…" I stutter for a second, trying to find my words, "Was that a… an illusion… a vision?"

A slight noise, a groan came from beside me. How I hadn't noticed her, I don't know but now that I did I took a good look at her.

She had unusually bright pink hair, almost angelic with the slight gray streaks in them. She looked young, well relatively young. Still older than me though.

There was also her figure that I was drawn too. Almost perfect in proportion. However what drew my attention the most were those pink eyes.

Gazing at me with slight disinterest, they shone with light. As if I was just an obstacle to her goal. Whatever that might be.

She took a deep breath, her cheeks turning pink for a moment and her head looking away from mine almost seconds after our eyes had met.

It was almost cute with how shy she was acting however there was still that question on my mind.

"I… I don't know, it may have been one or it could have been real but either way we need to go. With that hole in the house he may be able to see us."

"He?"

"Yes… the giant being in the sky, the devourer. He comes every few months. I once saw him find a sign of life, needless to say that was the last time I ever let him see any life at least near me."

"What? What does that mean?" I was confused. It was like she was talking in riddles on purpose or something.

"Oh… sorry, it just… I didn't mean to sound so vague." She held her skirt in her hands, her gaze falling to the ground.

"It's fine," I reassure.

"The man in the sky, just… just don't let him see you, it won't end well. I don't know how or even what happened but the moment that he had seen those living beings they were gone. Vanished without a sight."

"Vanished?"

"Yeah, without a trace. At that point I was lucky enough to be hidden and ever since I hid from his gaze each and every time he came here."

"Every time? You said that he comes every three or so months. If that were the case then how long have you been here?

"Long enough…" She quietly said, her voice turning almost scared in nature. As if some horrifying event had happened instead of just the passing of time.

I just nodded, a small smile on my face as I tried to lift the mood however much that I was able to.

She turned on her heel, as if she was trying to get from this place as fast as she could and I couldn't help but agree with that as I followed after her. I made sure to duck in the same places that she had and followed most of her movements.

It was only then that I finally noticed the addition on my back. It was so natural that I had not even noticed it until I was trying to hide myself.

They were wings, wings that one would expect on an angel. Pure white just as my hair was with fluffy feathers. They were also big, fully unfurled they could cover all the way to the opposite walls and still have more room.

Yet despite those proportions they still looked beautiful and could fold to the size of the small of my back.

Their nature was weird but I could put that off for the moment as we had reached what I could only assume to be a chapel.

I felt the fatigue in my shoulders and legs heal in mere moments. Even if I had only been walking for moments it still healed them. But most of all I could feel the building of muscles. As if this was not just some token heal.

As if it had accelerated the healing of my own body rather than reverting it back to its initial state.

My mind was already whirling with ideas on how to abuse this healing, unfortunately though I was broken from those thoughts with a shake to my body.

"Sit with me… please just for a moment."

She sounded so vulnerable in her tone, I couldn't ignore her, not that I even wanted to. It was for that very reason that I opened my eyes and sat with her.

I felt her head fall into the crook of my shoulder as her soft breath fell on my neck.

"Years, I don't know how many as I stopped counting after the first decade." I felt myself stiffen at the information.

Decades, she showed no sign of it yet I felt no deception from her. Even now all I could feel was the vulnerable touch of a young girl.

"I… I haven't talked to someone in so long. If it were not for the innate healing of this very chapel I wouldn't even be able to speak from the disuse of my vocal chords. Its… its just been too long since I had talked to someone…"

She brought her head from my shoulder, wiping her tears as she looked me straight in the eye.

"Whether you are good or evil, I know that you are the ruler of this realm and my only ticket to civilization… so… lets get along."

"Yeah… lets" I awkwardly said, my eyes closing in a smile to her. Though soon after they opened once again as I blushed for a moment.

I could feel my wings flapping behind me in excitement. I tried to stop them but that only resulted in them fleeing from me. Wrapping themselves in impossible ways to escape my grasp. It was like they had a mind of their own.

Suddenly I stopped, almost mortified as I looked behind me and saw the sight of the woman laughing as she watched me.

I blushed in shame as she approached once again.

"I'm sorry, it was just too funny." She stopped her laughter soon after her eyes closed slightly as she gazed unto me.

"Ah. I just realized that I never introduced myself. Emma, I'm Emma no last name unfortunately as I'm unable to remember such a thing."

I took the outstretched hand and shook it, my own gaze locking onto her own. "Inari Izanagi" I simply say.

A/N: I made this on a whim. I was playing around with CYOA's and found one that I liked and made a story around it.

I had to change some things because I wanted it to be a bit different but if you want to check out where I made my build just search up Startouched version 5.7
