13 Past Never Leaves Us

In the previous chapter-

The killer could clean the knife and room's floor but what about the other 2 cases in the street? No signs there either. It means, they stabbed the killer but it was healed even before the blood could reach the street. There's a connection Liam. There is. " He closed his eyes.

"Yup, time to try again" I smiled and put my hands in front of me. The book was lying on the floor, with my gaze on it. 1 minute passed. 15 minutes passed.

Why couldn't I move it? I practiced every day, hoping for a miracle. But it never happened. Miracles are miracles for a reason.

I hopped into my bed. So that was it? I couldn't do it again? My dreams... My hopes... I really did get ahead of myself after all.

I sighed. There was a loud noise was coming from Jack's room. I headed there absent-mindly.

I opened the door. The room was dark and the noise stopped. Jack stopped it.

"What was that? Why did you stop it?" I asked suspiciously.

Instead of answering, jack questioned me, "why did you come in here without knocking?" He raised his left eyebrow.

I tuened away and said nothing. I wasn't in a mood to talk.

Jack noticed that and said softly, "This was the first recording by the first ever camera father bought me and I stopped it when you came because it'll get damaged." He smiled.

"Uhh, show mee!" I grinned. All the tightness within my body turned into relaxation.

Jack closed the door and started to project it. Our father was dressed in a white shirt, gray tie and blue pants, wearing spectacles. The video was taken by me.

Jack, aged 7, was standing beside him, wearing his new pajamas which he already tore.

"Jenny stop recording. We'd use this when we go to picnic" dad said.

"Nooooooo" 5 years old me said.

"You're becoming naughty like your brother. Where's my little obedient Jenny?" He said.

"Y'all grown-ups always think we're criminals if we don't follow your orders. I've seen this world enough" Jack said.

"You're such a errant son. When I was young I was... "

Grandma cut him off, "... The same. Jack is a Xerox copy of yours. "

"Is that so?" Mom laughed softly.

"Absolutely not" Dad panicked.

"Not? Was it me or you who changed your diapers? " Grandma asked.

"Mom, not in front of my kids please... " dad pleaded.

"Granny tell us more!" Jack and I said.

"No dear, listen..." Dad started.

Grandma cut him off again, "He was wild like a monkey. He always tore his clothes and his dad used to say..."

"Mom!! Not here please!" Dad begged.

"Alright" Granny sighed.

"So what I was saying is... Dad started.

"... That granny used to change your diapers" Jack said.

"Yeah... I mean No! I wasn't saying that" Dad furrowed his eyebrows.

"So you mean I didn't change your diapers?" Granny glared at dad.

"No, I didn't mean..."

"NO you say?" Granny looked furious.

The clip ended. We started to laugh.

"Those days were good" Jack grinned. I nodded.

After a few moments of silence, all the memories were spinning inside my head. I looked at jack. His face was wet. I was stunned as it was the 2nd time I've seen him cry. The first is the day when our parents passed away.

I hugged him.

He mumbled, "Jenny... Why us? Why our parents? All other people have parents... So why not us? Why did they have to leave life? Why did they... Leave us? Didn't they say they'll be back soon?... With a new camera for me and a new book for you? They were all liars!" Jack sobbed. His hot tears dripped on my shoulder and before I knew it, my face was also messed up with tears.

"What if it didn't happen Jenna? Wouldn't have we been talking, laughing happily? Or they'd be scolding us like the old times, but at least they'd have been here... We could've embraced them... I want them here!!" Jack stammered.

"Me too jack... Me too" I hugged him tighter.

After half an hour, we started to get a hold of ourselves. I patted his head as we let go of each other. He always stayed happy and cheerful, as if nothing affected him... But did he really feel that way? Maybe he was just better than me at pretending. Have I ever helped him...?

Jack was looking down at the floor. Tissue papers were in another corner of the room. I didn't want to leave him even for 5 seconds. The tissue papers came in my hands and I gave it to him. He cleaned his face.

I gasped. Wait... I didn't get up to get the tissues... How did those get in my hands? Did I get those... By using my ability?
