"Your bone is straight up broken in two!" Ken said after inspecting Max for less than a second.
Max has been taking the heavy blows of the Medium-Grade Magic Boar and it was to no surprise that his body couldn't handle it. He might've been able to spare his arm if he used both hands but Annas words came into mind 'We will all get injured at some point' and chose to continue going for the spear on the ground, thinking that it will be worth injuring himself for a chance at the killing blow.
Truthfully, he did get the killing blow on the boar, but now the fractured bone he gained almost protruded out of his arm. It might take a while to heal and most probably it is not going to heal completely.
Max groaned in pain. "Leave me for now, let's not make the same mistake as before, get to skinning the boar and the rest...." 'Tsk' A spike of pain struck at that moment "I will get better after at least placing it in the correct place, can anyone help me out?" Max asked, his face was losing it's color with every word he spoke.
In an instant Ashley got right before Max, grabbed his arm and forced the bone in its place, along a sickening sound. Max felt incredible pain but bared, trying not to worry his teammates anymore.
Everyone got to do their things. Skinning the beast, getting its meat or taking its tusks which could be later made into blades by a craftsman, while Max was tending to his arm with Ashley's help.
They got everything wrapped up as the sun started to settle, they placed the loot into a special bag meant for preserving items like meat while Max finished his makeshift cast to hold his bone in place. It was just a long and thick wood slab tied to some kind of rope, nothing crazy but he thought it might help a little.
After finishing packing up they began advancing towards the village, once again the team experienced casualties.
** Back at the village gates **
On the way to the village the darkness overtook the light as the moon rose and the sun fell off the clear sky. Slowly walking through the village Max separated from his team, everyone going home after saying their goodbyes and hoping Max a fast recovery.
'Was it worth it?' Max asked himself. This injury might influence his whole life in a bad way unless he would treat it with a high-end medicine which he didn't have money for. He reached his home after walking for some time, he bore the pain which thrust from his hand and reached for the handle.
He opened the door.
He saw his mother at the table, warm food besides her, smiling and waiting for him. His dad was not around for the weekend days but he still enjoyed every time they ate together, talking about the hunt and what they found in the forest, his mother listening with a smile, curious and afraid of what he had done, sometimes pointing out stuff he should have done or how dangerous it was.
She knew that if her son didn't come till the moon rose, then he got a good hunt or found something interesting, but she knew he will return really soon, so she would normally wait for him with a warm meal, ready to hear his stories. Though this time what she saw saddened her heart.
Seeing her son, pale-faced holding his left arm that was bloodied while being partially wrapped with wood and rope struck her heart. When she saw him she immediately got up from her seat and dashed to him, accidently flinging off her food bowl, the warm rice and meat was spilled on the floor upon impact.
"Max!" Teary eyed, his mother look at his arm. Extending her arm she slowly and gently touched it, she continued examining his arm but when Max groaned in pain she took her hand away and ran towards something.
"Go on the bed and relax for now" While searching for something inside a room that looked like a storage she told Max after looking back at him and seeing him still staying in the same place looking at her.
Max did as he was told and after a few minutes of waiting his mother came out of the room, holding a sealed wooden cup in her hands.
"Let me take that 'thing' off now, I will apply this medicine, you will feel much better okay?" She wasn't crying anymore. She had a determined face while holding the so-called medicine in her arms but her eyes were still red from the crying she did before.
Max slowly extended his arm and his mother slowly undid the nods from the improvised cast. After she separated Maxs arm from the wood she opened the sealed cup which had was a paste substance with a light blue tint on it. Max's eyes went wide.
"Mother that is too expensive." After realizing what his mother wanted to treat him with he immediately commented.
Medicine was divided into 3 categories depending on the quality of the medicine. The quality was defined by how much mana the healing paste had in it as magic had the property of amplifying the healing rate of a person but also could amplify the healing rate of a medicine.
Even though the distance between low-quality and medium-quality was of just a rank the difference in effectiveness was like comparing the earth to the heavens this could also be said the same about medium-quality and high-quality.
White colored paste was the worst, also known as low-quality medicine, it had the least magic in it barely improving the effectiveness of the healing paste, medium-quality medicine had a considerable amount of magic in it, improving the effectiveness of the healing paste by at least 100% and high-quality medicine had a huge amount of mana, improving it by at least 250%.
"It is not, this kind of injury could destroy your life in the future Max, you need it healed as soon as possible. Bones are harder to regenerate even with the help of magic-infused medicine, while something like skin injuries are healed almost instantly with it..." His mother said, while dipping her slim fingers into the cup "... now show me the arm" she demanded seeing him rejecting her help.
She coated his arm in the light blue paste using the whole cup, not sparing even a little of it. Ever since the first layer of that paste was spread on his arm Max began feeling a cold sensation coming from his arm, it made him relax as he felt the pain subsiding.
After his mother finished applying the paste she invited Max to eat while she cleaned off the bowl she accidently hit when getting up. Max felt a bit awkward for eating while his mother cleaned so he helped her with only his right hand.
They both got to eat after his mother put herself some more food in the bowl she took out.
They talked as they always did, the air around became lighter as what happened before was placed on the back of their minds. They finished eating and after wishing each other a good sleep they each got into their rooms and went to sleep.
Unbeknownst to Max, after he went to sleep his arm started flickering with a strong blue tint to it. Max felt his arm getting cold but didn't mind it as it was still a cool and relaxing feeling to it.
