Jealousy In The Air

Maya followed behind Lucas and glanced at their entwined hands. Why did the man suddenly grab her hand possessively like that? It surprised her so much that her heart raced. It raced so hard that she could hear it thumping in her ears and her head felt dizzy.

"What were you and Noah talking about?" the man asked without turning back.

Maya heard Lucas' deep and serious voice. For some reason, he seemed upset. Quickly thinking on her feet, she replied, "I was worried about motion sickness...so he was just comforting me."

"Comforting you?" Lucas groaned with a frown. Who gave Noah the right to comfort his date? If anyone was to comfort her, it would be him!

At that moment, Lucas stopped walking, reached into his pocket with his free hand, and pulled out a packet of medicine. "Here, take one of these. They are chewable tablets for motion sickness prevention. By the time the pilots go over all the safety procedures and explain our route, it should take effect."

Maya accepted the medicine but she glanced at it with hesitation. Were they really just motion sickness tablets? What if they were something else? She had already let her guard down around the man too many times. This time, she had to be cautious.

As she held the packet, she bit her bottom lip nervously as she tried to think of a plan.

Seeing that she wasn't doing anything, Lucas grabbed the packet back and popped a tablet out of its blister into her hand. He then popped another one for himself and threw it straight into his mouth. "It's minty, you don't have to worry about it being bitter. I always take it before flights," he said gently like an adult coaxing a child to take medicine. He simply thought she was hesitating because she thought the medicine was bitter.

But even though it was for a different reason, this gesture did indeed make the woman relax. If he took the medicine as well, then there was surely nothing wrong with it. Placing the tablet in her mouth, Maya chewed on it thoroughly and swallowed.

Maybe she was being overly paranoid. This man seemed quite normal so far.

After she took her medicine, Lucas smiled in approval, gently grabbed her hand, and started walking again. "Stay close and don't get lost," he said.

Maya felt butterflies in her stomach when the man did this, but she quickly tried to suppress it. [Is the medicine beginning to work already? Why does my stomach feel funny?] she wondered.

Trying to regain her composure, she casually asked, "You seem to be very familiar with Vegas. Do you come here often?"

Lucas' lips curved upwards slightly. Finally, her focus was back on him. "I come here every now and then for business," he replied.

"Oh, that's right, I never asked you what you do for work..." Maya said with interest.

Lucas took a quick glance back at the curious woman. "I'm an entrepreneur."

"An entrepreneur? What kind of business did you start? Have I heard of it before?" Maya continued to ask.

Lucas shook his head, "I guess you could say it's in marketing, but we're not very well known. I don't think you've heard of us before."

Maya's eyes lit up when she heard this response. Marketing? What a surprise. They were actually in the same field. No wonder he liked the same things that she did.

"So how long are you staying in Vegas this time? Did you arrive long before you met me?" Maya tried to lead the conversation subtly towards the answer that she wanted.

But Lucas raised an eyebrow. Why did it feel like this woman was interrogating him? "I'm staying for a month and I arrived from LA one week before you did," he replied.

Maya nodded with understanding. No wonder Delilah had three weeks to convince the man to marry her. It seemed, he was either leaving Vegas to return to LA or he was leaving to return to Hong Kong with her.

"One week, huh? What did you do before I arrived? As you know, I went to a pool party the day before I met you at Z Hotel. Have you been to Z Hotel before? That hotel is so beautiful!" Maya continued.

Noah had mentioned that he dropped Lucas' car keys at the lobby of that hotel on the day of Delilah's accident. What was Lucas doing at that same hotel? Had he been waiting to follow her and run her over?

But to her surprise, the man suddenly turned around and said seductively, "I've never been to Z Hotel before. But if you want, we can stay there together...tonight!"

Maya quickly stepped back in surprise and blushed. What was this man talking about? "I-I already have a place to stay..." she replied shyly.

Lucas looked at the woman and chuckled. He loved teasing her and he saw the opportunity, so he took it. "Well, you should stop asking me about hotels or I will get the wrong idea," he smirked.

Gripping her hand tighter, he continued to lead her to the helicopter.

However, Maya narrowed her eyes and looked at the man's back with suspicion. Noah clearly dropped off the keys to Lucas' car at Z Hotel, yet he said he had never been there before. He was obviously lying. But why?
