Mellow and Radiant

Darcy's POV:

I wandered on the roads of California after the last day of school. It was finally summer. This summer would actually be different from the ones in the past. My birthday was on July 1st, every year a few of my friends would get me a cake and a few gifts and we'd spend the day at my terrace and as for my family, which consisted of my mom, my dad and my younger sister Kaylee, they usually forget about it, maybe a happy birthday text at best but that'd be all. This year would be different though, this year my parents planned to throw me a party at one of the best hotels by the beach. When I asked them why they said 'because it's your 17th'

I dragged my feet to the park looking for my best friend Keira, I put my bag down on the bench that was covered by the shade of a tall tree, I saw Keira walking toward me as she sat down beside me

"It's finally summer" she sighed looking at me

"You excited for your birthday?" She asked as I zoned back into the conversation

"Super, I wonder what it'll be like though"

"I'm sure it's be just fine and even if no one pays attention to you, you'd always have me" she stated assuring me 

"I'm nervous though, I know that Cassidy and Luke are my friends but I think everyone's going to ditch me you know" I said looking into her blue eyes

"Don't worry about that, if I have to I'll tie them up to their chairs" she chuckled

"You don't need to go so far"

"If I have to I will" she smirked
