The Awaking

Darkness...

All he could feel is cold in the eternal darkness.

When the boy opens his eyes he could see brown hair and an angular face that look a bit scary wore a motherly smile looking at him with affection.

"My sweet little Hijo aren't you" she cooed at him and hugs him with a warm embrace.

The boy giggles at this and soon begin to fall asleep.

"When you have grown up I'm sure you will be as a brave lion. Your name will be Leonardo, my sweet, sweet little Leo."

Then she put the baby back in the cradle.

"Carol, you can't be too attached to him it will only make it difficult when they will come to take him away." said a bald old man with white beard, his name is Dr. Abraham Cornelius he is one of the senior scientists of the project omega.

This project aims to make an omega-level mutant by possessing two or three X-Gene of powerful mutants.

Many subjects are dead due to unstable mutation of X-Gene but among them, one subject survives, it was only possible due to the ancient cosmic DNA mix with genes of Wade Wilson aka Deadpool, and Logan aka The Wolverine.

Carol wore a conflict expression on her face, Carol Hines is one of the lead senior scientists of the project omega, working for Essex along with Dr. Abraham and Nathaniel Essex the leader of this project.

The main purpose of this project was to create a powerful soldier to protect the nation and the world from powerful mutants but recently Carol found out that Essex has anything but good of the world in their mind.

Suddenly lab door was open and a tall black-haired man with very pale skin walk in, this man is non-other than Nathaniel Essex himself.

"So this is the subject Z-0174, he seems healthy", said Nathaniel in his's deep manly voice.

"Yes the boy is healthy for now but his X-genes seems to be unstable", said Dr. Abraham.

"Then set the laminator on the boy which could stable his mutation", said Nathaniel in his cold voice.

"You can't put a laminator on him it may stable his mutation but there is also the risk of losing his life", Carol said with a bit of anger in her voice which does not go un-notice by Nathaniel.

"O, since when did you start caring for lab rats, Carol", said Nathaniel with a bit of amusement in his voice.

Carol frowned a bit and ask, "Well he is the only one that survived the mutation sir we can't be reckless."

"Sir? I thought we were through that phase.", said Nathaniel moving forward and captured her lip which caught Carol off guard.

Carol step back and her frowns get deeper and said in a cold voice, "Nat we bring this through, and whatever it was it's over, so let be professional okay."

Nathaniel looks at Carol's face with a blank expression for a moment and said, "Fine" and he looks at the child, "If we able to stabilize his X-genes then we may be able to unlock this ancient mutant power, with that we will be closer to our goal.", then he turns around and sees Carol was pointing a gun at him.

"Are you sure about this Carol? Once you do this there is no going back", said Nathaniel with venom in his voice.

"Yes, I can't watch as you weaponize this child, what you want will only bring destruction in this world.", said Carol in a firm voice.

"Carol we are scientists, our job is to unlock the mystery of the universe, that boy is key to that and I'm not letting anyone come in my way.", said Nathaniel as he moved forward to grab the gun from Carol's hands.

BANG BANG

Carol starts shooting Nathaniel but stops as bullets do not even scratch him.

"It takes more than bullets -- or a harlot's kiss -- to kill Nathaniel Essex.", said Nathaniel as he sent a powerful Telepathic Blast towards Carol.

Carol quickly teleported away from the wave and appeared in front of him holding a carbon-metal dagger and pierces it right into his abdomen.

Nathaniel was surprised that Carol has power and a carbon blade as he clutches his wound and asks, "How? Since when did you have power?"

"I was planning for this moment for quite a while", said Carol, and then she picks up the Leo and Teleports away from Essex.

<U.S-Canada border>

Dr. Abraham was waiting for Carol as she appears he asks, "O thank god you are okay, I was worried that you won't able to get away with Nathaniel there, but anyway, did you bring a limiter?"

"No, but I will be able to make a new one once we reach the safe house.", said Carol as she starts to load the car.

"Okay then, so this goodbye then", said Dr. Abraham.

"Yes, we have to move quickly before Essex able to track us down.", said Carol as she finished loading the car.

"I will send you supply for your lab every year, take care of yourself and little Leo Carol.", said Dr. Abraham.

"Yes, I will and thank you.", said Carol with a small smile on her face.

Dr. Abraham nod his head at this and said, "Goodbye."
