New Beginnings

Six months later.

It was a hot June afternoon, the windows had been opened all night, allowing the breeze of the sea to come through and refresh each corner of this insipid room. On the bed a woman hooked to all sorts of machinery slept peacefully. The doctor had just completed his morning rounds and then he put the patient's file back in its place, at the bed's end.

"There's still no improvement... Dr. Sheng, shall we change the medication again?" The nurse standing beside him asked.

Dr Sheng took a minute to contemplate in his mind the condition of his patient. He let out a short sigh and responded.

"Not anymore! The patient has not yet responded to any medication that we have applied. We shall wait till the end of the month, If there is still no improvement... or any family member to come forward... then we should just disconnect her!"

The nurse was shocked for a brief minute.

"Doctor, I know that she has no family anymore, but what about her parents, her maiden family, shall we contact them again?"

"What is the point?! We left several messages and besides... her condition was all over the newspapers and the TV for a long while, their intentions are very clear to me!

Please refer my suggestion to the board of directors later and let's allow this woman, to rest in peace!"

The doctor then exited the ward, closing the door behind him. The plaque with the name Lin Yan, slightly shook from the motion.

Seattle, USA. St. Joseph Hospital, 9:45am.

"Mrs. Harris?" The doctor called in the hallway. Seconds later a thin, beautiful woman rose from her chair, followed by a tall lean asian man. They looked very good together and exuded a noble air. People will turn heads wherever they went. She had long black silky hair, her pair of black sparkling eyes, would draw your attention and allow you to sink in her gaze instantly. If she was a demoness, she would be suckling your soul out of your body, with her very own eyes.

The man beside her was no exception either, his aura was so powerful that it will make you cower at once, only by throwing a mere glance at you. His deep black eyes were similar to hers, but his had an inexplicable storm inside. A storm that was going to lash at any second if one was provoked, but the way he looked at her it was different. It seemed that to him, she was his whole world, his very own soul and the air he needed to breath. His dotting was so obvious that any one, female, male or any other being, was instantly jealous of the love he had for her.

He quickly gathered her belongings and followed closely behind. The doctor invited them in her consultation cabinet and motioned for the couple to sit down.

"Congratulations! How are you feeling Mrs. Harris?"

"I feel ok, I am not suffering of any conditions yet!" The woman replied with a wide smile on her face, while the man took her hand in his and gave it a gentle squeeze. The doctor observed the little gesture and returned to her files.

"Mrs. Harris, I am going to be your OB for the full term of your pregnancy. Now, I need to go through a few questions with both of you, so that I can compile the best I can, your medical file!" The doctor said while monitoring the behaviour of the two closely.

The young, beautiful woman nodded, while her smile was still plastered on her face, since the moment she had entered the doctor's cabinet.

"What is your full name Mrs. Harris?"

"Joanne Harris!"

"Date of birth?"

"February 3rd 1990"

"So you will be 32 of age when the child is born!"

"Yes!" The woman replied stealing a glance at her husband.

"Are you two married?"

"Yes!" The man replied instead.

"Your full name Mr. Harris?"

"Samuel Tom Harris"

The doctor was typing all the answers, in her computer.

"Mrs. Harris, what was your maiden name before marriage?"

"Miller!" The girl replied looking at her husband again.

The man looked down at her tenderly, giving another gentle squeeze to her hand, a fleeting discomfort was seen in his dark eyes for a brief second. Unfortunately that miss of a beat, was registered by the OB and she decided instantly to do separate interviews.

"Mr. Harris, I would now like to ask your wife a few questions in private, can you please step outside for a moment?"

The man's heart constricted, but he was adamant to not show it on the surface, he smiled politely and said. "Of course!" Then he rose from his chair, released his wife's hand and stepped out of the door, but not before leaving a tender kiss, on her forehead.

"Mrs. Harris, now it is just the two of us and I would like you to answer to my following questions, honestly. I want you to know that we can offer utmost protection to pregnant women in this country and we have a specialised counselling team ready to step in at..."

"Why are you telling me all this?" The woman interrupted the doctor, while on her delicate face a slight frown was now visible.

The doctor let out a sigh and begun.

"Mrs. Harris, is this a planned pregnancy?"

"Yes!" The woman replied hurriedly. The OB looked up at her, as she was giving her answers.

"Is this your first pregnancy?"

"Yes!" Jo replied again.

"For how long you and your husband have been married?"

"Three years!"

"Have either of you been married before?"

Jo paused for a moment, a trace of uncertainty fleeted in her eyes. The OB looked at her and repeated the question.

"Mrs. Harris, have either of you been...!"

"I don't know!" Jo replied suddenly, interrupting the OB again.

The doctor stopped typing, leaned back in her office chair and asked.

"You don't know if your husband has been married before?"

"No! I don't know if I have been married before, I... I didn't thought of asking..." Jo replied honestly.

"Mrs. Harris I don't understand, why would you ask anyone about your marriage status?"

"Well I suffered an accident six months ago and been in a coma. My brain stopped functioning, so I lost all my memories and now, I am also suffering from learning difficulties!" Jo replied saying the truth.

The doctor readjusted her position in her chair and after a brief pause, she started typing all the new information, in her computer.

"So... actually you are not certain, if this is your first pregnancy?"

Jo paused and her frown grew deeper.

"... No!... I am not sure!"

"We will run some checks after this interview and we will be able to determine this fact later. Don't worry!"

"Thank you!" Jo replied.

Two hours later the pair exited the hospital and went towards their favourite pizza restaurant, to have lunch.

"How is your wrist doing? Still hurting?"

The man was in the driver's seat, with one hand on the steering wheel, while the other was holding his wife's soft hand.

"It's better now!" He replied.

She leaded her other hand, towards her stomach and a faint smile was traced on her lips.

"I have a feeling that it's going to be a girl!"

The man looked at her briefly and smiled back. "I am feeling, the same way too!"

Jo's smile spread all over her face and looked at the man with a full heart. She might not know her past and she was uncertain if she would ever regain her memories, but right here and now, she had everything she had ever wanted. Her husband's care and affection and her little bundle of joy, growing inside her stomach.

Lu Ye Ze looked at his wife's broad smile and he couldn't help, to replicate it too. He squeezed the steering wheel in his hand briefly. He had a tumultuous past, that he had hidden it from her. Yes, he was afraid that she would find out eventually, but until then he would love her with all his being and he would only hope, she would forgive him again and let him stay beside her and their children.

This was their new beginning, he will never give up, he would fight with anyone, including himself to be together with her, to stay beside her and to grow old together. His life depended on her presence, if she wasn't close to him, he felt like he was suffocating and he was afraid that his heart would stop beating, as at the moment, his heart was only beating for her.

"Honey I love you!" The man said.

"I love you too, darling!" The woman replied with a gentle smile on her lips.

The End

~~~~~~
Dear readers, I want to sincerely thank you for all your support and for sparring some of your time to read my story. I hope you have enjoyed it and also hope that you will look forward to my new novels.
At the moment I am writing "Rock Bottom" it's a short life story, with a lot of heated content, while my other novel "The Object of my Affection" it's at a standstill. This is the first novel I ever wrote a few years back and unfortunately, I forgot the story line, but I will try to put all my creative energies together and come up with a good thrilling story again.
Once again, thank you deeply for you love. I wish you all the best and take care of yourselves.
Lots of love and hugs from your humble author,
Andreia ❤
