Chapter Eight

Sophie woke up to the sound of her phone buzzing on the nightstand. She groggily reached for it and saw that it was a message from her sister, Emma.

"Hey sis, how are you doing today? I have some news that might cheer you up. Call me when you get a chance."

Sophie smiled weakly. Emma had been her rock throughout the whole ordeal with David and Jessica. She grabbed her phone and dialed her sister's number.

"Hey Emma, what's up?" Sophie asked.

"Good morning, sleepyhead!" Emma chirped. "How'd you sleep?"

Sophie shrugged, even though her sister couldn't see her. "Eh, it was okay. What's the news?"

"I got us tickets to see that new exhibit at the art museum this weekend!" Emma exclaimed. "I thought it would be a fun distraction for you, get you out of the apartment for a bit."

Sophie couldn't help but smile at her sister's thoughtfulness. "That sounds great, Em. Thank you."

"Of course, anything for my little sis," Emma said. "And I have another surprise for you."

Sophie raised an eyebrow. "Another surprise? What is it?"

"Well, I may have mentioned your situation to a friend of mine, and she knows someone who she thinks would be perfect for you," Emma said, a hint of mischief in her voice.

Sophie rolled her eyes. "Oh no, not another blind date."

"Come on, Sophie, it couldn't hurt to give it a try," Emma said. "You never know, he could be the one to sweep you off your feet and show you that love really is worth it."

Sophie couldn't help but feel a pang of doubt. After what had happened with David and Jessica, she wasn't sure she was ready to put herself out there again. But she also knew that Emma had her best interests at heart.

"Okay, fine," Sophie said reluctantly. "Set it up. But no promises, okay?"

"Deal," Emma said. "I'll send you the details later. Now go get dressed and get some breakfast. You need to keep your strength up if you're going to go on a date this weekend."

Sophie laughed, feeling grateful for her sister's unwavering support. Maybe this blind date was just what she needed to move on from David and Jessica and start fresh. Or maybe it would be a disaster. Either way, she was ready to take a chance and see what the universe had in store for her.
